Penmanship is an art that is slowly dying at the hands of technology. It’s truly unfortunate that current generations and those to come don’t and won’t realize the immense importance of the art of writing by hand. This phenomenon runs parallel to the proliferation of computers in the home, classroom, and everyday lives of people. It is all too common for a senior in high school to not know how to write in cursive or be confused by the thought of comprising sentences in a manner that inspires the feelings embedded in the message without having to read the message itself. The art of penmanship isn’t just drawing shapes and lines to form letters and words to be interpreted once read, but to let corresponding passion manifest in the style in which the words themselves are being written. Most of today’s generations and those to come will only know how to compose an email or a memo. Albeit both mediums share the exact same outcome, a message sent, received, and handled accordingly, there are differences in the two that may not be as obvious to those who feel indifferent about the matter than to someone who has a passion for words, writing, and the myriad of emotions invoked by their content and construction. There’s a beauty to behold in a love letter, intensely felt by the heart, carefully thought by the brain, and meticulously crafted by the hand, meant to touch the heart and soul of the receiver. There’s also a satisfaction in appreciating the beauty of not only the message contained in a love letter but the construction of it as well. Whether it’s intended or subconscious, the style in which a love letter is written speaks to the author’s mood while composing it. Long, whimsical strokes of his pen come together to form words that are meant to invoke the same feelings in the recipient that floods the author’s own body. Perhaps the way he writes his words, leaning…...

Madoff Affair

...finally discovered the scheme, he went to the SEC. Originally, they took no action. A year later, Markopolos submitted another more detailed report. He basically led the SEC “with a map and a flashlight” and they still couldn’t discover the fraud. When the scheme was finally discovered, there were many government meetings to figure out why the SEC didn’t find it. At first, they dodged the questions stating it would interfere with ongoing investigations. Later, they admit that the SEC has been extremely understaffed and under budgeted. Greed played a large role in the affair as well. Considering people were receiving high returns, they were all afraid to question how. Unwilling to risk being removed from Madoff historically successful investments, clients were cornered to just accept it as is. Unfortunately there were many red flags that could have prevented this Ponzi scheme from growing into such a massive affair. One of the major signals was when the SEC shut down the original funds claiming the financial advisors were not licensed. This was because Madoff had his early investors heavily recruiting new money. The people that were recruiting the new clients were not legally able to do so. Instead, the greed of Madoff and his investors lead this to continue....

...a decision. Anderson (2007) noted that “ethics is a dimension in the communication process. It is relevant to all actors in communication process- the source of the originator the person who receives interpretes, hear, heads the communication and the people who in effect further agent of transmission (p 132). Ethics can be defined as moral principles that govern a person’s behaviour or the conducting of a activity. It could also be regarded as a branch of knowledge that deals with moral principles. From the above definition one can deduce that ethics is an moral philosophy. It evolved from the Greek word “ethos” which means character. The ancient Greek broke ethics into three. (1) Aesthetics (what is beautiful?) (2) Epistemology (what is knowable?) (3) Ethics (what is good, both for the individual and for society? The Cambridge dictionary of philosophy states that the word ethics is commonly used interchangeably with “morality” and sometimes it is used more narrowly to mean the moral principles of a particular tradition, group individual. “Tomas Paul and Linda” Elder of the foundation of critical thinking opined that most people confuse ethics with behaving in accordance with several conventions, religious beliefs and the law”, and don’t treat ethics as a stand – alone concept. Paul and Elder defined ethics as “a set of concepts and principle that guide us in determining what behaviour help or harm sentiment creatures”. Theories on ethics are postulated by......

A7D Affair

...Reading, the A7D affair case, I immediately reminded me of the Firestone tire malfunction that I read in my public relations class, where a recall was done to all customers who purchased their tires. The biggest questioning factor within this case contradicts personal moral for business success. Would changes of design been made? Several practices discussed within Chapter 1 were exemplified throughout this case such as groupthink, diffusion of responsibility, bystander apathy, self-interest, conscience and moral judgment. The replacement design was not possible to complete for the schedule of delivery that was promised to customers. Since Lawson brought the issue to Warren’s attention, he denied the design being the probable cause. Once Lawson went to Sink, it put him in a difficult position. Because if Sink approved the design it wouldn’t look good, Although Vandivier did demonstrate the practice of “groupthink”, the blame was constantly pushed off to another in this company crisis. Vandivier was outweighing the costs of his personal life benefits (family life) vs. business benefits when determining his direction of ethics and decisions. Failure of communication within employees and departments was detrimental and therefore the organizational norms should be revised within the corporation. According to Shaw and Barry (2013), “business has no ethics” (p.5). When first reading chapter 1, I was in a bit of disgust from this statement but after reviewing this......

Use or non-use of quotation marks is also considered plagiarism. It is considered a fraud and an academic dishonesty. Plagiarism is defined in various ways in institutions of higher learning. For example, Randall defines plagiarism as “appropriating another person’s ideas or words (spoken or written) without attributing those words or ideas to their true source” (132). Watkins views plagiarism as “the use of another person words, works or ideas without attribution” (5). The Longoria Affair

...The Longoria Affair Master in Arts/Leadership Communications The Longoria Affair What had become an unfortunate and devastating aspect of World War II (WWII) suddenly saw the small town of Three Rivers, Texas thrust into the national spotlight. The untimely death of Private Felix Longoria, a hero and patriot became the symbol of Mexican Americans, while his story, The Longoria Affair provided proud Mexican Americans a purpose to unify and expand their struggle for civil rights in the decades to follow. The far reaching impacts would go down for many as the turning point in history for the civil rights of Mexican Americans, while for others involved, it became a cornerstone to some very powerful political careers. Three Rivers The small South Texas town of Three Rivers, just 100 Miles from the Mexican border was like many towns across the country that shaped itself along a racial divide. There were clear signs of segregation between the towns Anglo Saxon community and its Hispanics residents and this was even evident down to the street names used respectively on each side of town. The unwritten rules within racially divided towns often were born from the heart of discrimination and could often point to the underlying violation of civil rights. Evidence of such acts was often subtle but it was commonly known that a Mexican American for example could not purchase a home within the Anglo Saxon community. Three Rivers on the contrary also had residents that were......

...Budget 2012 – Transformation or Retrogression? 2011 December 15 by Nasir El-Rufai [pic][pic][pic]Let me start by apologizing for the inevitable absence of this column in the past two weeks; just as I would also like to express sincere gratitude to all those that visited, called or sent condolence messages to my family for our bereavement. Moving on to the subject of this discourse, in the light of the passionate debate on the removal of fuel subsidy with which the country has been bedeviled in previous couple of months; the issue of whether the 2012 Appropriation Bill is a budget of fiscal consolidation or retrogression is as timely as it is topical. Transformation is a huge word that the Jonathan administration thoughtlessly uses to describe its aspirations. Is there anything transformational about the 2012 Budget proposals? In the course of presenting the Draft Budget, President Jonathan in paragraph 1 of 81 of his address states “this budget is a stepping stone to the transformation of our economy and country in our walk to economic freedom” and concludes in paragraph 76 thereof that “Mr. Senate President……the Proposal I lay before you this day seeks to sustain sound micro-economic growth that will translate to achieving socio-economic transformation, and gainful employment for our people”. Meanwhile, and perhaps by divine providence, in the afternoon of the same Tuesday, 13th of December; the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that Nigeria’s biggest power......
