“Why I write/Difficult reading"

Writing. One word, unlimited stories, tales, memories and also; stress. I struggle with both a mental and medical disability. This makes it so much more difficult to do everyday activities let alone something that takes long-term commitment and focus. I struggle very much when it comes to writing, reading and pretty much anything that has to do with concentration. When doing an assignment for class, for example; homework, my severe anxiety kicks in (although I suffer from it 24-7 it hit’s the ceiling when stress is involved.). I have to not only understand the work that has to be done I then have to read, re-read, look up, ask questions, attempt to understand, and re-read as I go to try to answer any questions I later have. I never knew about this column setup before and truthfully I am shocked to find that it does actually help. When reading I used to highlight, underline, keep notes or truthfully skip over words or sentences I couldn't comprehend or just couldn't pronounce. I was very lazy in my younger school years and pretended like certain words, definitions, or sentences were not important and could be skipped or omitted from the readings I was working on. I later found out that I was wrong and it was my downfall in certain assignments. I also struggle from a learning disability that I just recently found out about which also makes it frustrating when it takes hours to do an assignment that takes others minutes to complete. No matter how hard I try to stay on top of any assignments I usually seem to feel as if I am behind. I may do the assignment and feel as if I gave my all, spent much time re-checking and correcting it and then submitting it with success to later have it graded with a lower grade then expected. This also frustrates me to the point where I would stress out even more, attempt to fix…...

Why I?

...Why I love fashion At an early age wool, cotton, linen, and silk have been always a part of me. Not much has changed since that time except for the fact that I have grown to love and appreciate what goes on behind the scenes in the fashion industry. I simply dress to have amusement to my existence. As Bill Cunningham described in his wonderful documentary "Fashion is our suit of armor to survive every day life. It would be like doing away with civilization." I was confused on whether to engage my life to the fashion industry being such a competitive job. I believe that fashion has pushed me out of my comfort zone to try things I never would have imagined I would. What keeps me passionate about the fashion world is the freedom and creative expression one gets. You can express yourself and maybe people will listen or respond. If I see someone with a great pair of shoes on (for example), I may go up to them and tell them and we strike up a conversation and perhaps we become friends. This isn't always the case but it is more likely since you started with a mutual interest. I knew I could start making the world pretty one girl at a time! Fashions is art that we wear every day and live our lives in. Unless you live in a nudist colony, clothes are something that we must wear every day. The beauty of that is that through clothing we have the opportunity to express a part of our personalities and ourselves. I love beautiful and functional design of all types whether it be......

Why Should We Write

...Writing is an activity people take part in every day. It is a way to express the true side of yourself that others cannot see- a way to let out the feelings held inside. Those who cannot verbally express themselves may turn to writing. Many ways to do that would be writing a poem, letter, song lyric, or a poem. In my past writing experiences, I have learned to grow as a writer like a small seed grows into a beautiful flower. A test we call TCAP was my first writing test. It was a short essay that we had been given which was required to be five paragraphs long. The worst part was the surprise topic; they would not tell us until right before starting to write and then expected us to write a good paper over an unknown topic. It is like giving a little kid a new toy without instructions. I thought it was very silly at the time, but now I realize that it showed me how to think creatively on the spot. Writing is a creative, mentally collective process done by most every day. It is a way to express the feelings of those who participate in this activity. As a writer myself, I use this as an escape or vacation from the issues of reality. When beginning writing your ideas, you must prepare and arrange as if you were preparing for a trip. Decide what might be needed by making a list of the things that that would properly prepare, as well as any extra items that may be useful later on. The extras may be needed if anything goes wrong. Next, the writing must start before it can......

Why I Write

...MEDIUM Why do I write? First, I write because I have feelings that are sometimes well said when written. You see, I used to be that someone who is really not outspoken. I keep almost all my thoughts to myself that sometimes, when I get the chance to say it, It gets tangled up making it harder to express. I used to consider writing as my way of letting it all out. As if writing is my refuge. When I was in high school, every time I feel down, I write my emotions to my notebooks. Sometimes when I feel intensely sad, I grab any notebook near me and write on it. I even cry while I write. Nowadays, I no longer feel the same way and as I read through my “diaries”, I never would’ve realized how emotional I was during those days. I also use writing as a way to record my life because I love travelling down memory lane. I love taking time reading through my “diaries” and see myself during that exact time. Like when mom and I had a fight, I wrote with such strength that my pen ran through the paper like a knife. There are also times when I feel too happy that I write with the most beautiful hand writing I could ever produce. Such times tell me that I could be extreme. I would like to call those days as my transition period. The time when I hit rough waters just to get to whom I am now. From the past me who was too introverted to the present me who am a little less introverted and a little more outspoken. Writing really makes a big contribution to my growth. But, I seldom write......

Why I Write

...12 February 2014 “Why I Write” Joan Didion Basically, the story of this article, “Why I Write”, is about how she thinks. She explained about her problem about thinking in abstract and then described her thinking process. My favorite quotation in this text is “When I was in Berkeley, I tried to buy temporary visa into the world of ideas, to forge for myself a mind that could deal with the abstract.” I chose this quotation because it made me laugh. I surprised about the broadness connotation of language. I have not thought about using language like that way ‘visa into the world of ideas.’ Now, I can clearly understand the beauty of language and why people study the language. To be honest, I could not understand why people choose their major as English or other languages. I thought majoring language does not have any attraction; however, I finally tasted a charm of language which left such a great aftertaste. I want to ask my peers about how humble she is. In the article, Joan said that she got a bachelor’s degree in English from UC Berkeley which is one of the greatest universities in the States. However, she mentioned that she is never related with intellectuals. Don’t you think she is humble? How can she possibly say that? The most interest thing in this article is her process of thinking in abstract. Actually, I also have same problem as Joan’s. I always failed when I try to think something in abstract. I could not get out from the limitation of tangibility.......

Why I Am a Formalist

...appeals to me is like asking whether or not I want the recipe to the food I really like. Yes, the food still tastes good without knowing the details, but it makes it even more delicious when I know them, and I can understand why it tastes the way it does. The formalist approach to literary analysis gives you more insight to understanding the piece of literature as a whole. Similarly, when you eat something, such as a slice of pizza, you are eating many parts of a whole. Dough, cheese, marinara, and pepperonis are examples of these parts. Relatedly, these components of the literature could be things like historical context, author, and/or symbolism. Biting into that mouthwatering pizza would not be the same without all of those ingredients. It is better to understand where all the tastes are coming from. Knowing why the author writes the way he or she does or knowing how the setting affects the characters’ values can really make a difference in your ability to comprehend and break down all of the little details. It is these things that make reading more enjoyable, more so than just reading what is in front of me. With the reader response method, I can get much more meaning out of literature and sometimes even more meaning out of life. The formalist approach does not appeal to me because I do not just want to see something at face value. In short, the pizza would not taste the same without all of the different flavors, so why would I not find the recipe and figure out......

How I Write

...How I Write Brandy Jolly Grantham University HOW I WRITE When I am confronted with a writing task, I ultimately freeze up. I do not know where to begin. While writing my paper I tend to write the same things over and over again. I used to sit down every night and write in a journal. Since have kids I do not have time to do that anymore. So over the years my writing has gotten really bad. When I do my writing assignments I have to have complete silence with no interruptions. I have found that I can concentrate on my assignment better at night after my kids go to sleep. I want to be able to write an essay or paper that makes sense and has proper punctuation and grammar by the time this course is over. My writing process includes a lot of free writing. What I am thinking is what I write on my paper. I believe that studying the APA guide will greatly improve my writing skills. The APA guide will give me complete details on how to set up my paper correctly. The EBSCO tutorial is very beneficial in that it allows me to learn how to research papers that will teach me how to write more efficiently. I can also use the list of FAQ to answer questions that I may have concerning my assignment. Most of all I will be using my instructor as well as my classmates to help me during this course....

Life Before I Could Write

...An Issue Of Confidence I haven’t written in quite a while, and that was because either I got lazy or because I thought things were getting better. I’ll be honest. Nothing is getting better. For one, there is a girl I currently like. The friendship, relationship or what ever you want to call it began on the Internet, and when I see her in person, I cannot even muster the courage to talk to her. My shyness, and confidence issues really are beginning to hinder any social progress for me in this world. The thing is that she might be one of the few girls that I’ve ever liked, and I do not want to screw this up. When I’m in her vicinity, I begin to become extremely self-conscious. I think about my face, my hair, and my breath, just about everything. I only think about the negatives but not the positives. Sometimes I ask the question, how can she possibly like me at all. I don’t find my self to be handsome, and I know for a fact that she is extremely beautiful. Tomorrow her and some other people are coming to my house, and I do not want to mess up again. Should I try my best to overcome my shyness? I know that if I do start talking to her, I will scrutinize everything I say, and become extremely nervous if I think I’ve made a mistake. I don’t think I can possibly survive in the ”real world” if I do not overcome these confidence/shyness issues, because its becoming quite extreme so I’m hoping that from now on I can do something about it. I have no one to seek advice from, tomorrow...

Why Do We Write

...We write for a number of reasons. We write to get our ideas out, to get our imagination and what we want to say from our minds into pen and unto paper, we write to express ourselves. We write so we would be able to relate to others exactly what we want them to hear, and what may be going through our minds. There are persons who if you speak with them directly would not be able to say what they want accurately and writing helps get the message across just the way you want it to be heard from the listener’s side. Sometimes we speak and we make mistakes and we can’t take back what was said, we can say sorry or say that was not what we intended to say but the person already heard it and can take it the wrong way, but if you write you can always erase, backspace or cross off what was written and rewrite what you initially wanted to say. We write to keep records or to remind us of stuff we may forget. Our brains, which can be linked to a flash drive or computer sometimes crash or goes blank and we need a boost or technician to remind us of things. Writing is like our Technician we can go back to our recorded documents and refresh ourselves with what we wrote and get back on track with what we have written a while aback. We also write to keep stories or important information from our past, alive. Stories from our dead ancestors can be carried from generation to generation and we can see through their eyes what transpired back then even if we weren’t actually there....

The * Some people have problems at home and want to take their feelings out on others and so they bully. * Some people just have an aggressive personality, and low self-confidence issues 1.3) IMPACT: ON THE LOCAL COMMUNITIES: RACISM * It separates communities because some people cannot except people of different races living together thus drive a wedge between people in the community. * Racism does not allow for a collective contribution of its citizens, which I believe to be a critical component of a communities development and success. If a class of people is not allowed to be educated, they cannot make important contributions to society in technological and medical arenas. The denial of quality education to certain groups of people only serves to obstruct the economic progress of a community. * Racism destroys our morality. No matter what a person’s culture or religious belief, racism is based on hypocrisy. Therefore, no one in the community displays moral behavior to each other forming hatred among everyone and the community will never be able to grow. BULLYING * Bullying can lead the whole community to become afraid of living there because they are scared to become victims and......

Why We Write

...Why We Write Everywhere you look in the world today, you see writing. If it’s graffiti on the walls, the newspaper, words on the TV screen filling you in on missing persons or something that has expressed feelings. People write for all types of reasons. There is always a reason for why it’s important that we write, no matter what type of writing it is. People write things down to inform people. Newspapers were formed to inform people what is going on around them. If people had not started to write the newspapers, other people would not know what is going on in their communities and across the country. Another reason why people write is to express their feelings. Poems, songs and graffiti are all types of ways to express their feelings. It is important that we express our feelings through writing because if we couldn’t write to express our feelings, they would possibly bottle up inside us. It is important to write things down because it helps gain knowledge. If scientists had never written down their findings, would we know the things that we know now? We read what they had written down and gained knowledge; and from that knowledge we can progress their findings and make them better. There are all different kinds of reasons why it’s important that we write things down, but we don’t have to write. Writing can also be an impulse, something that we want to do. If humans had never learned to put pen to paper, then the world might not be as advanced as it is now. We would...

Why I Blog

...Andrew Sullivan, blog lover explains why he loves to blog in his essay “Why I Blog”. He thinks it is modern type of newspaper where you write a blog and you also get reviews of readers and what they think. This means he had definitely wrote many blogs as he thinks it is easier to let others know what is going on in the world through a blog. In his essay he talks about one of his blog about 911. He shows how he got close to the readers and what opinions he got from his readers in his essay. Sullivan reminds me of my older sister, Nicole. She also loves blogging. One of the reason she enjoys blogging is she thinks she is really good at writing and I also think the same. And another is she loves when people read what she wrote and gives her feedback. I personally do not like to blog and I had never read one. Sometime Nicole forces me to read at least one of her blog but I denied her every time. I feel very less people uses blog to share what is going on. Because nowadays people are busy using apps like Facebook, Twitter and online news paper. I hardly new any people who reads blog now. People are on Facebook 24/7 and I think one can be easily updated if they have any kind of social media. As we all know about Ice Bucket Challenge which was unknown since last year, but this year it spreader within two weeks in all over the world through social media. Now everyone knows about Ice Bucket Challenge, and I personally think if someone wrote a blog about this then it would not reach......

The Letter I Shouldnt Write

...Dear Ex Future Husband, I think of you everyday. Many things remind me of you. The smell of sunscreen. Taking naps on my futon. Running down the street. The  strike of the clock at 8:00pm where you would call me every single night. Those are just a few of the million things that remind me of you. I cant say I hate it. I cant say I love it. Country music brings everything back into place because country makes everyone think about love.....or drunkiness. I first wanted to write you a letter.  A letter full of hate. Full of anger. Full of regret. I didn't though because thats not what I see now. Thats not what I feel now. I haven't talked to you in over 3 months. Seems like a short time when you date someone for 5 years on and off. Sometimes I still feel my racing heart. I remember when I fell in love with you for the first time. It was a hot summer day. We were both baking in the sun. Laying lazily on our kayaks. I had kayak 5. You had the blue one. Our hands drifted next to each other. Even if it was the slightest touch, I saw myself marrying you that day. Having kids. Growing old. Now I cant even remember the sound of your voice. I wish you hadn't of run away. Being over 1000 miles away is hard for anyone. I wish you would have waited just one more day because that one more day might have been different. I wish I hadn't yelled at you so much to get a job. I was only trying to make you the best person you could be even though you were already being him. I wanted the sky for......

Why I Majored in History

...everything we do or say will become history after it’s done or said. I want to study history and find more about my families’ history, and my culture in parts of the world where my descendants come from. It is extremely important to know where I come from and who my people are, as one day I will marry and settle down with my own family. I would like very much to be able to tell them about our families’ history and from where they come from. Most important is not letting my families’ history die with my elders. The only way I know of doing this is to research, talk, and spend more time with them and let them tell me everything they know so that I can research further and find more information out than previously known. To me, history is more than linking our past. It offers a small glimpse of the future. Not all, but most families way of doing things, professions, hobbies, etc., all come from learned behavior that may have been passed down from generation to generation. In order to progress forward, I feel that you must know where you’ve been. To me history is exciting, because you can learn from peoples past and dissect how and why events unfolded the way it did. Understanding people’s mindset can be difficult and many obstacles can stand in your way. But through proper research and understanding documented events in the past, you can actually break down peoples way of thinking and start to understand why they chose the decisions they did. History isn’t......

Why Write an Executive Summary

...How to Write an Executive Summary: Why Write It? Investors, lenders, executives, managers and CEOs are busy. Always. That means that the executive summary is an essential gateway for your business plan to get read. Think about it this way: if you had an endless list of things to do, and someone handed you an 80-page document and said "read this! you'd probably first want to know why. "The most important reason to include an executive summary is that in many cases, it is the only thing the reader will read," says Pablo Bonjour, founder & CEO of Katy, Texas-based SMG Business Plans, a company that offers entrepreneurs assistance in writing business plans. According to Bonjour, investors will read the executive summary to decide if they will even bother reading the rest of the business plan. It's rare for an investor or lender to read an entire business plan, at least in the initial stages of analysis and consideration for funding, so having a strong executive summary is key. When you're writing your business plan, your goal is to get your foot in the door and face-time with the investor. "Assuming that your business is a good fit for the investor, a strong executive summary will get you invited in for a meeting," Hirai says. "A poor executive summary will leave you standing in the cold."
