Why is investing in mental health important to your role as a human service professional?

Investigating in mental health can be very important to me as a future Human Service Professional. This is because we must get facts before we can act on a situation. We must ask questions and get answers. My client could have a history of suicide attempts and this would be very important when trying to find the best way to provide help. In mental health there are many questions such as what is my client’s diagnosis? Do they take certain medications to help this? As a human service professional I want to know all I can about my client and their needs. I need to investigate about the community, culture, background, family and friends. All of this plays a big role in how successful the client will be. Investigating and getting all the facts is very important in any profession you do.
We need to know how to ask the right questions. We do this so we can get all of the information we need and to not leave anything important out. This would also help to save time instead of forgetting something and having to go ask more questions.
As a Service Professional we will see many different types of people such as people with diseases, mental illness, suicide attempts, poverty, and children coming from bad homes. We must know how to handle every situation because none will be alike. By investigating and asking questions we can find the right situations to suit the needs of the…...

My values were shaped based on the teachings of Christian values. My parents demonstrated those teachings in their parenting style as well as in their relationships towards one another as husband and wife. For example; my father was the financial provider for our family and my mother was the home make. While, growing up my father always worked second or third shift which did not allow him to spend as much time with my two siblings and I. Nevertheless my mother reverenced my father and kept his presents active in the home. For example, my father would write my siblings and I encouraging notes and place them on our refrigerator every day. My father would write;......

Why I?

...Why I love fashion At an early age wool, cotton, linen, and silk have been always a part of me. Not much has changed since that time except for the fact that I have grown to love and appreciate what goes on behind the scenes in the fashion industry. I simply dress to have amusement to my existence. As Bill Cunningham described in his wonderful documentary "Fashion is our suit of armor to survive every day life. It would be like doing away with civilization." I was confused on whether to engage my life to the fashion industry being such a competitive job. I believe that fashion has pushed me out of my comfort zone to try things I never would have imagined I would. What keeps me passionate about the fashion world is the freedom and creative expression one gets. You can express yourself and maybe people will listen or respond. If I see someone with a great pair of shoes on (for example), I may go up to them and tell them and we strike up a conversation and perhaps we become friends. This isn't always the case but it is more likely since you started with a mutual interest. I knew I could start making the world pretty one girl at a time! Fashions is art that we wear every day and live our lives in. Unless you live in a nudist colony, clothes are something that we must wear every day. The beauty of that is that through clothing we have the opportunity to express a part of our personalities and ourselves. I love beautiful and functional design of all types whether it be......

Why I Chose Devry

...Corina Jess I have been going to Devry Online for almost a year now. Choosing to go with Devry is one of the smartest decisions I have made. I chose Devry for several reasons, there attendance policy, the freedom it gives me, the price to go, and the being able to go at my own pace. Devry’s attendance policy is great. It is very easy to follow and fits into my crazy schedule. The attendance policy is simply show up in class at a minimum of three times a week, with the first time being before midnight mountain standard time on Wednesday. All assignments are due every week by Sunday at midnight MST, unless the professor give you a different date. Students are allowed to turn in late work if the professor accepts it, but the assignment will get a percentage penalty for it being late. What I also like about Devry Online is the freedom with the class schedule. There is no set time that a student must be logged into class. If I wanted to go to school at 2:00A.M, I could. The classes fit around my schedule. I have a very crazy life with work, school, kids, and my husband, so having the freedom to go to class whenever I wish is one less thing I have to worry about. The price to go to Devry Online is much cheaper than if I chose to go to a campus school. With Devry Online, I do not have to pay for a dorm room, extra books, meals, and gas to get back and forth to school. I enjoy not having to worry about how I am going to pay for my books or gas to make sure I can......

Why Am I Here

...Why am I Here? The decision to further my education was made long before I completed high school; however, at the time I did not have the resources at my disposal to achieve my life goals. In conversations I had with individuals that I surrounded myself with I realized that furthering my education should be a top priority. The decision was made to join the armed services which had a huge impact on my life. Not only did the rigors of military life provide me with the discipline that I would need to succeed, but it would eventually avail a litany of resources thereby enabling me to pursue select long and short-term goals such as purchasing property and building a home. Over the years I’ve been motivated by an unquenchable thirst for knowledge and by living vicariously through family, friends, and their college experience(s). Along comes the Great Recession; a period in our history that continues to impact every hard working American and the global society. The unfortunate events leading up to the recession and the subsequent implosion of the economy, if you will, forced me to seriously ponder my future. Why now? “Why not?” would be the easiest way to answer that question, but the more obvious answer is the fulfillment of my goals. You see I never gave up on them I just chose another route. I envision a better quality of life following successful completion of my degree program that will not only affect me but family and friends. I presume that more opportunities will present......

Why People Chose to Enter the Helping Field

...Professionals chose to enter this field for various reasons, some personal, professional, or because they simply want to help others and give them a chance at a better life. Majority of the professionals get a sense of approval when helping others whether offering direct or indirect assistance. I chose to enter the helping field because so many around me have children with disabilities or dysfunctions within the home. Frustrated with not knowing what to do or where to turn to. I want to make a difference with them and help them to have that support and peace that I have learned over the years with my sister and my son. By learning more of how to help them and how to find the best way to support them I can help many of the families around me to understand what they are going through as well as learning techniques to help themselves with their child or children. Find them resources and the right doctor and helping with them handling the environment around them such as church and school. I chose this field because it hurt me after reading about so many cases of child abuse from parents of infants, small kids, and children with special needs that were assigned to case workers that knew the kids needed some type of help and they falsely signed papers saying they checked on the child but the children passed away. so my thought was I could be one of the many case workers that actually do care of the outcome of children. I wanted to enter this field for many reasons.......

Does the Accounting Profession Deserve Its Reputation? Why or Why Not?

...Does the accounting profession deserve its reputation? Why or why not? At the time Stephen Zeff wrote this article, the accounting profession deserved it reputation it had developed. From it humble begins in the early 19th century, to 2003 when this article was published, the accounting profession’s reputation became tarnished. At the time the Securities Act of 1933 and the Securities Exchange Act of 1934 were passed the intent was to create accounting standards for publicly traded companies. However as time went by the accounting profession faced scandals and deceit. The immense pressure placed on auditors to generate new revenue by retaining existing customers and generating new leads, clouded their judgement about addressing inconsistencies and asking questions. Greed and the pressure to make a profit, further tarnished the reputation the founders of the “Big 8” firms worked to develop. The accounting profession no longer represented honesty, integrity and accuracy. In a study printed int 1976 “the Big 8 firms lacked independence from their clients (Zeff, 9/2003, Pg 201).” Max Block summed it up in 1982 stating the accounting profession “was a term that lost some of its relevance (Zeff, 12/2003, Pg 267). Employees of auditing firms were pressured to expand their services to consulting to keep up with their competition. Professionalism deteriorated and auditors became focused on keeping the company’s they were working for happy. Employees that did not meet the......

Communication I Nursing Profession

...Why is Communication in the Nursing Profession Important? Meia BrownCM/107Kaplan University      Communication in the nursing professional is complicated process and the possibility of sending or receiving incorrect messages frequently exists. It is essential that we know the key components of the communication process, how to improve our skills, and the potential problems that exist with errors in communication. Good communication skills should be considered a basic requirement for any person irrespective of the profession the person is engaged in. Communication helps a person to relate well with the people he is interacting with. The nursing profession is not an exception since a nurse should use good communication skills to be able to relate well with the patients. A nurse deals with different kinds of patients each suffering from different types of ailments. As a result, the nurse should be able to approach each of the patients differently. This means that, a nurse should have great communication skills.     I believe good communication when I become a Medical Assistant, will help me relate well with my patients. Bearing in mind that I deal with different patients suffering from different ailments, some more serious than others, I have to use my great communication to know how to pass whichever information I have across. Sick people need encouragement in life and for this reason, I use my good conversationalist aspect to show my politeness and that I care about them...

Why Us Government Chose Residual Income Maintenance

...those experiencing financial hardship. This is probably why the government chose a residual approach to income maintenance rather than a universal approach. The purpose for residual approach income maintenance is to provide a minimum level of income to families and individuals. Recipients must demonstrate an economic need according to the (means test), with eligibility based on income and assets (p.116). Examples of residual income are Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF), Supplemental Security Income (SSI), food stamps, Medicaid, earned income tax credit (EITC) and (Section 8) housing aid. Each program includes an incentive or clause that promotes able bodies to increase their income by earing wages to supplement their assistance. In conclusion, according to Antipoverty Strategy, when hourly wages are high, the number of people in poverty tends to decline. (p.163) The purpose of universal income maintenance is to offer minimum income for poor families with children. Universal approach supporter, President Nixon, proposed a replacement for the old welfare aid programs with a single program called, “Aid to Families with Dependent Children.” This plan would grant income to families with children, but with strict stipulation. One of the requirements would force mothers with children under three years old to gain employment. (p.147) However, others felt there were too many flaws in the program. I believe the primary reason the government opposed the......

Profession and I O M

...The Impact and Future on Nursing In this paper I will discuss the goals of the 2010 Institute of Medicine (IOM) published report and its impact on nursing education, nursing practice specifically in primary care and the impact on the nurse as a role of leadership. In my conclusion, I will provide on a personal level what modifications I will make in my nursing practice to meet the IOM report goals. Within the paper I will explore how the impact of the 2010 IOM published report titled “The Future of Nursing: Leading Change, Advancing Health” has on the three topic points stated above. The IOM published report was set forth by the IOM’s Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Initiative on the Future of Nursing committee group whose purpose is “producing a report that would make recommendations for an action oriented blueprint for the future of nursing” (IOM, 2010, p. 2). The basis of the IOM report is to provide proposed changes with the newly implemented Affordable Care Act (ACA) of 2010 to the very complex United States healthcare system and how the future nurse’s role should evolve with education, practice and leadership. The IOM recommends that “Nurses should achieve higher levels of education and training through an improved education system that promotes seamless academic progression” (IOM, 2010, p. 163). Today’s healthcare needs are expanding, diverse and ever changing. Nurses play a large role in providing care but cannot do so effectively if they are not being educated...

I Chose Zips

...I chose Zips, a company for portable wine containers. The initial offer from the pitch was a 2.5 million dollar investment for 10% equity stake in the company. The Zips business is the best solution to drinking wine on the go. I chose this product because I was very impressed with the offer and the backup that the presenter had. Zips is going to be a successful company simply in the utility of the product. Many people who want to have wine somewhere have the problem of having a nice way of drinking it. The consumable product itself is sellable and generally a high-class commodity. People who buy wine have money so the target audience is profitable. What I am very impressed with is the mobility of the product. The holistic utility of the product is mainly in its mobility. Not only can you take it anywhere but also the glasses are extremely strong. The presenter even stood on top of his class product and it didn’t break. Keep in mind this is a only a glass to hold wine. Secondly the twist on cap that can attach to the bottom is a well thought idea that greatly increases the mobility. I think that the patent that the company has is a valuable one. Selling the company’s own wine might not be the best idea however if they sell the packaging license to a huge company that either distributes or bottles wine, the company could be sold for a lot of money. Just the idea behind the franchise is valuable in itself. Yes, it isn’t as good as having an actual wine glass...

Why I Chose to Pursue an Mba

...Why I Chose to Pursue an MBA Abstract This paper will outline the reasons I chose to pursue an MBA. I will construct and support an argument for my pursuit of an MBA. I will support my decision of pursing an MBA with references and data of individuals who have written articles regarding the pursuit of an MBA for African Americans. This paper will include my Jungian results from the 16-Type Personality Insights questionnaire to see if I have the qualifications of a manager. Why I Chose to Pursue an MBA I decided to pursue an MBA to start a new career and to achieve a personal goal. I have a best friend who persuaded me to further my education. She would tell me, “Seles, this world is going to require that individuals who seek employment have a Master’s degree.” I began to think how my goal would be achieved and what university I attend. Wondering and worrying about the cost of this type of education caused me to have many sleepless nights and much stress. My concern was finding the time between allocating times with my six year-old son, working part-time as a volunteer and taking care/assisting my parents who are 70. Also my biggest issue I had was who would hire a recent graduate who is almost 50, African-American single parent of a six year-old son and who have never worked in the corporate world. So I prayed and asked GOD to authorize my pursuit of a Master’s degree. I talked with my advisor Lance Thorsen and he eased my mind and encouraged me......

Why I Majored in History

...do or say will become history after it’s done or said. I want to study history and find more about my families’ history, and my culture in parts of the world where my descendants come from. It is extremely important to know where I come from and who my people are, as one day I will marry and settle down with my own family. I would like very much to be able to tell them about our families’ history and from where they come from. Most important is not letting my families’ history die with my elders. The only way I know of doing this is to research, talk, and spend more time with them and let them tell me everything they know so that I can research further and find more information out than previously known. To me, history is more than linking our past. It offers a small glimpse of the future. Not all, but most families way of doing things, professions, hobbies, etc., all come from learned behavior that may have been passed down from generation to generation. In order to progress forward, I feel that you must know where you’ve been. To me history is exciting, because you can learn from peoples past and dissect how and why events unfolded the way it did. Understanding people’s mindset can be difficult and many obstacles can stand in your way. But through proper research and understanding documented events in the past, you can actually break down peoples way of thinking and start to understand why they chose the decisions they did. History isn’t my favorite......
