Losing weight can be a challenge for anyone. A simple weight loss plan should not be difficult for most people to maintain. There will be differences in the way men lose weight, and the differences in the way women lose weight. In my experience, it is generally harder for women to take off the pounds than it is for men. Conceivably, a man can cut out something as simple as soda, and drop several pounds in a week. A woman, who cuts out the same amount of soda, will drop fewer pounds in that week. Is it fair? Maybe not, but that is how it seems to work between the sexes.

We will be discussing two methods for weight loss. One will be a diet and exercise regimen; the other will be through the use of medications, supplements and medical procedures. Both have their potential advantages as well as their unfortunate drawbacks. Before any kind of weight loss regimen, it is a good idea to see your doctor first. Various weight loss regimens may have to be altered or customized for each individual.

Selecting a diet and exercise program you can stick to can be important. Many people who begin a weight loss regimen, may get bored, lose interest and/or get discouraged and quite possibly, slip back into their old behaviors.

Eating the right foods is important in any diet as well as drinking plenty of water. To start, you want to make sure that you are getting enough fresh vegetables and fruits. These are usually low in calories and high in fiber. You will also want to eat foods low in saturated fats, but high in protein. The best source for this is chicken and fish, and limited quantities of red meat. Other food items that are high in protein and fiber are nuts, healthy soy derivatives and beans.

Rest and exercise are equally important components in any weight loss regimen.…...

There are many Americans becoming more health conscious, yet the vast majority is still overweight. There could be many reasons for this; poor eating habits, or from plain ole laziness. An interest in one’s career or one’s family lifestyle could be the cause for one to neglect their physical well-being. In order for a person to maintain one’s health and to prolong one’s life, one needs to exercise along with eating healthy foods with nutritional value. Exercise and healthy diet regimen is the main ingredient to losing weight. Some folks think that if they skimp out on a couple of meals and taking it easy on the snacks, they can lose weight without exercising. Little do they know that when one exercises, not does he only burn off body fat, but he is also helping his body function better. If one does not have the time to go to the gym, simply taking the stairs rather than riding up a couple of floors in an elevator is one way of staying active, and one will notice that they have a little more pep in their step. The benefits of exercise go far beyond weight loss. Lifting weights for exercise can reduce one’s risk of osteoporosis, as well as reducing one’s risk for......

Here Are Two Different Ways of Losing Weight

...Here are two different ways of losing weight. Weight can be lost many different ways, but two of the most well-known are dieting and exercising. People every day are worried about how much they weigh or how they need to lose weight, just feel better or look nicer. That’s not what it should be about; it should be about how a person will feel in their own skin. Dieting and exercise can help with weight loss. Dieting, a very well-known method of losing weight is simple. People will start watching what they eat and how much they eat, which can sometimes lead to anorexia. Which is definitely not the way to go, someone wanting to lose weight should worry about what they consume but they should never worry about how much they eat. Yes, eating too much will not help get rid of the excess weight? But they also need to understand that they need to eat to stay healthy. By eating healthier they can start to lose the weight they want taken off. This process will take time, but weight will come off. If you want to feel fuller start by eating vegetables, by starting with the vegetables the stomach will feel fuller and a person would not have to continue eating to think they are full. Also by drinking plenty of water, weight can be lost. Drinking water was once thought of something to gain weight, but now it is proven to not only being good for you, but to help with weight loss. Two more significant ways to help with dieting are: having smaller meals and staying busy. Eating 5-6 small......

Losing a Friend

...the reality of what I was to become of me and my family. The early morning of March 24, 2006 was nothing if not the one-day that will forever be seared into my brain. Much like the ritual of an owner branding its animal, I will forever be marked with the horror of that morning. I was always a very happy child with a great family and the privilege of being surrounded by loved ones at all hours of the day. My mother is an incredibly hard working woman and after school everyday my sister and I would get to spend time with our cousins at my grandparent’s house until our parents got off of work. These memories can only be described as the pinnacle of my childhood, wrapped in a warm blanket of love and delicious after school snacks. The two younger grandchildren of the family were my sister Megan and my cousin Jonathan while my older cousin Kerra and I were the leaders of the pack. While I’d love to say that I had as much authority as Kerra did, she was a whole six years older than me and with that said, I was only second in command. Nobody complained about the hierarchy of the situation because we all had a mutual love and respect for each other that I would like to think is very rare for children that were all around the same age. Of course as life went on, Kerra became a teenager leaving my pack and me in the dust for boyfriends and Friday night hangouts. There was no animosity about the situation but I longed for the companionship that we all once had and......

Compare and Contrast Two Methods of Sociological Research.

...Research Methodology Aila Sajid Bhangoo Introduction A novice researcher often has a confusing start looking for answers to questions such as: what should be the focus of the research, what approach must be taken towards research that is how to go about data collection and how to draw the most accurate analysis from the information gathered. Consequently, it is of paramount significance what subject matter the researcher chooses, what research questions he conceives and how the researches goes about in conducting his research. There are primarily two aspirations for orchestrating a research; the first is to find a solution for an on ground problem present in the day to day political life which is called applied, practical or policy research and the second is with the aim of fostering and boosting the available knowledge about the politics and political world which is referred to as basic, pure or theoretical approach. Hakim defines policy research being concerned with ‘knowledge of action’; hence, it focuses on “actionable variables” or variables. The target audiences of such researches are policy makers in government, institutional decision makers, special interest groups and other relevant stakeholders. The undercurrent aim of policy research is to make accurate prediction based on techniques such as simulations, mathematical modeling, forecasting, time......

Discuss Two or More Methods of Stress Management (12 Marks)

...One method of stress management is the use of drugs. There are two types of drugs the benzodiazepines (BZs) and the betablockers (BBs). The BZs, like Valium work by increasing the effect of the neurotransmitter GABA. GABA increases chloride ions into the neurons making it more difficult for neurotransmitters to stimulate them so it slows down the activity of the activity of the central nervous system. This reduces anxiety and leads to a feeling of calm. Bzs work very fast so it makes them suitable for emergency situations, however they are very addictive so can only be prescribed for two weeks at a time. They also have side- effects like for example they lead to memory loss and if an overdose is taken it can lead to respiratory arrest. The Betablockers block the adrenaline receptors which are mainly situated in the heart and the large blood vessels. So when adrenaline is produced by the adrenal medulla as a response to a situation perceived as a stressor the blood pressure does not increase and the heart rate remain stable. The BBs do not cause addiction but if taken for a long period of time they can cause diabetes type 2, they can also make people tired and lead to hallucinations. Lau et al. (1992) carried out a meta-analysis and found that they were effective in reducing blood pressure. However drugs are emotion focused therapies unlike psychological therapies like CBT they do not teach the patients skills to deal with the stressors so when they stop the treatment the...

The Ruse of Losing

...The Losing Ruse The short stories “The Lottery,” by Shirley Jackson and “The Rocking Horse – Winner,” by D.H. Lawrence have a dark side; by attempting to control the outcome in their lives the character’s ungodly behavior demonstrates winning is losing. “The Lottery,” by Jackson, transports the reader in time to a bright sunny early summer day; a sense of warmth and a tightly knit community. This warm summer day with rich green grass with blossoming trees is a setting of joy, playful children and happy townspeople who gather to participate in the town’s lottery. Had Jackson included a dark cloudy and rainy day, the change in setting may foreshadow losing the lottery and even pointing to death. A change of setting such as a downpour, may create a less sociable crowd. The changing mood creates anticipation and foreshadows “winning” the prize. The warm day, the social interactions, the playful children stuffing stones in their pockets and the anticipation of the event begins to reveal the unexpected result. The late arrival of Mrs. Hutchinson certainly she will not be unlucky enough to win but lucky enough to lose. The reader feels the ominous shift in tone. The lottery box arrives with an eerie and suspenseful mood with dark undertones. The box takes center stage and the townspeople give wide berth to the black box. Jackson’s rich use of symbolism points one direction – winning- all the while taking the story to a climax in an opposite direction – losing.......

Outline and Evaluate Two or More Psychological Methods of Stress Management.

...One psychological method of stress management is Stress-inoculation training (SIT). This is a cognitive behavioural method designed specifically to prepare individuals for future stressors and to promote resilience. People are taught a range of coping strategies they might use to help deal with stress. The stress inoculation approach has three phases; conceptualisation, skills training and practice and real-life application. Conceptualisation is where clients are encouraged to relive then analyse their stressful situations by breaking them down into more manageable chunks. This enables the client to reconceptualise the problem and have a more realistic understanding of what aspects of a situation provoke a stress response. For example; a teacher at school, or a boss expecting someone to work overtime without being paid extra. Skills acquisition and rehearsal is where clients learn not to get into a stressful stage by being relaxed to help reduce immediate effects of arousal. Clients develop coping strategies to deal with specific stressors; it includes both cognitive and behavioural components. Real-life application is where the client puts their strategies and techniques to the test and then reports back to their therapist to see whether they were successful or not. Contact with their therapist is maintained and clients discuss what strategies work well and what they have struggled with. One strength of SIT is that its effectiveness has been supported by research.......
