In the new economic environment that has emerged as an impact of the recent ‘crisis’, the complexity of each industry forms a demanding context that affects consistently both the internal and external environment of organizations. As a result, the majority of the firms need to maintain their competitive advantage. However, a firm have to constantly increase the value of their products offered to clients in order to sustain their competitive advantage (Barney, 2008), as well as being profitable in order to exist (Egan, 1998). The comments within the booklet are based upon information collected at a series of discussion groups and interviews at Strathclyde and Glasgow Universities. The questions put to the discussion groups were based broadly upon the performance criteria and knowledge requirements identified in the report "Draft Occupational Standards in Research" (Gealy et al, 1997). The booklet is in two sections. The first section, "Interpreting Research Results and Findings" considers various aspects concerning the interpretation of results. This report gives a limelight on the extent to which strategy has contributed to the superiority of BMW in the UK automobile industry. In analysing this, the report will begin with an evaluation of BMW as a premium car manufacturer. The report then employed the use of PESTEL and Porters five forces to analyse the external car industry environment. The internal environment are analysed by use of value chain analysis. Bowman’s Strategy Clock is also explored in understanding the marketing strategy used by BMW Company. Our strategy is to attack and focus on a specific market segment until we have a large market share. We are Apex Performance and we want you to get your "bang for the buck" out of our products. Our company's objectives focused on five important goals: 1. Grow out earnings per share by at least 4% in the first few years. 2. Increase our Return on Equity (ROE) each year by at least 10%. 3. Uphold an A- credit rating in case we needed to borrow money. 4. Keep a good image rating by maintaining at least an 80. 5. Increase stock prices an average of 5% annually. The graph below shows that Apex Performance struggled to obtain our image rating goal of 80. Our numbers were below average and our goal was not achieved in our first three years as a company. Of the four reasons that Elmut and Kathawala (2001) outlined for the emergence of strategic alliances, it appears that there are two primary reasons for why Rolls-Royce has chosen to partner with different firms. For one thing, the company stands to gain from such partnership in terms of entering new markets with which it is unfamiliar. Brokering a deal with local corporations allows Rolls Royce to expand its market while at the same time benefiting from the expertise of an old-timer in the market. Secondly, Rolls Royce is also into strategic partnerships in order to obtain new technology and best quality at the cheapest cost. The company has four business divisions, all of which need intense research and development funding.
