The First Hunt

...The First Hunt Imagine having the feeling of complete serenity as you lay still waiting; listening to every broken stick, crushed leaf, and bird chirp. Waiting for the footsteps of a deer or the image of one in the distance to fill your veins with adrenaline which gives you that feeling you dream about. All this leading up to one pull of a trigger, sending a message to your brain that tells you you’ll be a hunter for the rest of your life. This image was a very important part of my life. My brother started hunting when he was around 12 or 13 years old with my dad and I was too young to hunt. It all started with only being able to go out with them and watch them shoot deer, rabbits, turkey, and birds. I was always anxious to be able to do it myself because I thought I would be good at it and enjoy it. All I had was a pellet gun, and I was limited to showing my skills shooting by shooting bottle caps from a distance. I loved impressing my dad with my shots and looked forward to showing him how I could hunt when I was of age. Eventually I was 12 years old , got my hunting license, and a permit and that November I was ready for my first hunt. That weekend I went down to my dad’s it was all preparation. We had a checklist to make sure the night before we had everything laid out for us in the morning. We needed gloves, pants, shirts, coats, ammo, flashlight, seats, and of course the rifle. We couldn’t afford to forget anything in the morning because there was no turning back...

A Hunt for a Kill

...A Hunt for a Killer A common night on my favorite bar. The bar “Bourbon for men “I usually drink there. Yesterday I bought some pills from a guy on the street. He said that I should try them in clean bourbon. I’m going to try that. I crushed the pills with my glass. I poured the pill-dust in my glass. I drank the whole shit. I called for another bourbon. When I got it I looked down. Black tar was pouring op from the glass. I closed my eyes and shaked my head. I could not believe what I just saw. It was just a hallucination. It seemed so real. I had to get some fresh air. I rushed out from the bar and found the nearest bench. My head was killing me. It must have been the damn pills! I woke up. In an old dungeon. I got up quickly. It had to be a hallucination. No it wasn’t. I touched the cell door. Pushing it carefully. I took a peek outside the door. Nothing to see down the hallway just a faint light escaped from the ceiling. I grabbed a stone brick for defense. I stepped out on the hallway. I looked carefully around but which way should I go? left or right? On the left there was nothing but complete darkness and I didn’t have a flashlight. The right path there was at least a faint light. I headed right. I had been walking for at least 10 minutes that had to be the god damn longest hallway ever! I should probably check the cell doors for supplies. Nothing in any of the cells. I had no choice but to keep moving. I finally reached a door that was different from the others.......

Hunts' Story

...based on two real life oil princes, Herbert and Bunker Hunt. The Duke brothers fictional corner of the orange juice futures market was meant to mimic the Hunt’s perceived corner of the silver market in the late seventies to early eighties. During this time period, the Hunts accumulated mass quantities of physical and futures positions in silver. The unrealized profits generated slowly grew to a peak of around $3.5 billion dollars over about seven years. It took mere months for that gain to turn into a bankrupting multi-billion dollar loss. We aim to show that poor risk management led to these losses. Sadly, the Hunts received multiple signals to exit their position with handsome profits. Instead, they madly added to their silver stocks without regard to potential future shocks to the market. This was despite the fact that the regulators intervened and started creating a bearish reality for silver. . This paper also intends to question whether this was a true manipulation or just another sad tale of a beautiful investment idea crushed by over exuberance and leverage. Ultimately, the Hunt’s brother’s greed clouded their better judgment just like when poor Mortimer clamored for the exchange to be opened as his brother laid in agony on the floor. First, we will look at the motivations behind the Hunts bullish position in silver. Figure 1 shows that global inflation was a major concern during their early life. The Hunts believed runaway inflation would mark the end......

A Witching Hunt

...A Witch Hunt or Not Today, we are exposed to many details pertaining to a time when superficial abilities/powers were thought to be real and practiced. One of these situations was known as a witch hunt. A witch hunt was commonly known to take place when there was a search for those that were supposedly witches. Once caught, these individuals were usually persecuted. As time has passed, witch hunts have evolved and are looked at differently. Witch hunts now are viewed as campaigns against a person or group holding unorthodox or unpopular views which leads to persons with any known reasons wanting to punish another sometimes even for personal gains. This leads me to my question: Were people too quick to judge and given too much freedom to decide the fate of individuals whose actions were unproven, deemed against the law, or just misunderstood? It is hard to comprehend sometimes the decisions made by people and their effects on others. When decisions/judgments are made based on nothing but assumption and emotion, they can be sickening when we think about the pure injustice on the obvious innocence of the victims. These types of situations are considered, witch hunts. Sometimes, the very officials that proved whether or not the accused were guilty or innocent, forged evidence to support their own claim. Honestly, I have a difficult time looking into these stories because of how “stupid” (in my opinion) some of these people were and how outrageous their......

A Hunt

...“CHOOT your dream has finally come true. We are going hunting tomorrow” my father informed as he came home. Yes it was the time when I could see my father in action and how good of a hunter he actually was. I was very excited as it was going to be my first hunting experience. We had planned to hunt wild geese in a place called Baloki. The next morning a thrill of anticipation ran through me as I opened my eyes. I quickly packed up and saw my father preparing all the huge guns for the hunt. So we finally departed from Lahore for Baloki. The way my brother and cousins had described the place made me eager to go there. That is why I had been irritating everyone by asking “Are we there yet.” After two hours we finally reached the river bank. When I saw it there were no words to describe it. It was as beautiful as heaven. There was a river bank from where you could see the blue water of the magnificent river Ravi. So after unloading our cars we finally setup camp and it was finally time to rest our legs. After a few hours of rest we took out our guns and started skeet shooting. I was very impressed by everyone’s aim. And I was even more lucky when my father came up to me and handed me the gun. As I held the gun I could feel my heart pump faster and faster. I had felt this extreme sensational feeling which was out of this world. Then I finally pulled the trigger. I missed the shot but still it was the first time I ever held a gun in my hand. I felt more of a man rather than a boy...

Witch Hunts

...Witch-Hunts, Then and Now Witch-Hunts, Then and Now, is the topic I have chosen for my research paper, which will define similarities and differences between the “Salem Witch Trials” and “The Second Red Scare”. The actions that took place during both events played on the fears of citizens to further the personal, political and social agendas of those individuals that conducted the trials. These two events are just two examples of how history repeated itself, where hysteria of the masses has been used as justification to trample on the basic rights that we, as humans, have come to believe as essential to our lives. I chose this research project because the effect of the McCarthy era tactics that infringed on the Constitutional rights of many Americans can be seen today in the policies and actions implemented since September 11, 2001. As an American, I am disturbed to see that we as a people and our government appear not to have learned from our past. During the eras of the Salem Witch Trials and that of McCarthyism, there existed a fear that the values of each society were being threatened from both internal and external entities. During the Court of Oyer and Terminer, influential members of the Salem community used the trials to punish ministers with in the colony who were seen as tolerant to other religions. There was a movement within the colony to relax the strict customs of the Puritans, but the community leaders wanted to maintain a tight control on their spiritual......

The Hunt

...The Hunt “Annabel, Annabel I know it’s late but can you tell us another story? “ “As you said its late and your sister is already sleeping, moreover…” before I could finish my sentence, she looked at me with her big shiny blue eyes ready to fill up with tears and said: “Please Annabel please I promise I’ll be sleeping after the story, just a short one please.” How could you say no to that innocent small angel? “Okay, okay just be quite because you will wake up your sister.” I whispered. She smiled and her beautiful blue eyes shined with happiness again. *** It was winter. Snow was falling, so much like stars. Drifting against the windows, politely begging entrance and then falling with disappointment to the ground. It was magical. My house was north from the small village, so close to the woods. The woods were lovely, dark and deep. Every year we went there with my family, so my father can go hunting in the woods. Every year I was asking myself ‘Is hunting wrong?’. I finally figured that hunting is not necessarily wrong. Besides, as far as I am concerned, the motive makes the difference. I told my father that for first and maybe last time, I will go and hunt with him. I was in the woods early in the morning, before sunshine. The snow was endless, a heavy blanket on the outdoors; it had a way about it. A beauty. But I knew that, like many things, beauty could be dangerous. I was a hunter before I went to the woods and didn't even know it. A certain......
