Fitness and Leadership One, two, three, four, five; Oh my, I just cannot do anymore pushups. I’ve only done five and I have fifteen more to go. You know what, I think that is enough for today, I will finish them tomorrow. As a matter of fact, I think I’m going to finish my entire workout tomorrow, I have done enough for today. Well tomorrow comes and I make the same exact statements, maybe I am just not fit for this exercise stuff. This is the way I used to think when I thought about getting fit, but then I begin applying my self-leadership skills to my fitness goals and now you can’t keep me away from the gym. Chapter 10 of Mastering-Self Leadership: Empowering yourself for personal Excellence by Neck and Manz, explains the connection that self-leadership and fitness have with each other. It’s no surprise that exercise and diet is the key to fitness but you have to have self-control and self-empowerment to actually get up and workout. My fitness level is not at its best but I do try to work out at least three times a week, am I always successful with working out that often, No; but it is the routine that I am trying to make a habit. I have also realized that I do not have a good workout plan, I go into the gym completely lost because I don’t know what I should work on. I look at the treadmill and hop on for maybe ten minutes because I get bored with it fast. Then I go over to the weight sets, and attempt to lift weights but I think my form is off. After that I just decide that it is time to leave, and that doesn’t sound too much like a good workout. The sad part is, after I leave instead of me feeling accomplished I feel like I need to work out a little more. That is how I used to be before I actually started applying my self-leadership skills. I can go into…...

...Art Reflection Paper Pop Culture and the Arts October 10, 2011 Art Reflection paper Art can be expressed in many ways. Art is seen in every aspect of our lives. The way people dress, wear their hair, makeup, and even the type of car they drive is a form of art. Artist use various ways to express art by the way they dray, the colors they use, creativity , and the style that they use to create fullness or dullness in the pictures. In this paper, I will discuss what art means to me. Next, I will elaborate on how art and culture relate. Finally, I will give two examples that illustrate how art and American culture relate. What Art Means to Me I think that art is a representation of a person’s inner feelings at that particular time. Art is more than just a painting on a canvass, it can be the lyrics of a song, the clothes that a person wears, a play, a poem, and even a hairstyle can be a form of art. Art is not something that can be duplicated or copied in its entirety. For example s writer can write a book and then a producer make a movie out of the book but the two will not be the same. How Does Art and Culture Relate Culture and art relate because art is formed and developed based on a person’s culture. Each culture has a certain style, certain foods that they eat, and a certain way they behave. Art is influenced by cultures. Different cultures have different views and often see the world differently from others. The quote “beauty is in the eye of the......

...Reflection Paper Shannon B. Payton Liberty University Introduction This paper is about reflecting on what was covered in Theology 104. There are many Christians who understand that God loves us and wants the best for His children. There are many subjects, videos, and extracted material that has been read or discussed over the span of four weeks which has given me a better understanding of the Bible and Christianity. My reflection for this paper I have chosen two topics that I have chosen to address for this paper. First, topic I have chosen will be Grace and secondly I will be focusing on Love. Grace Theological definition of “grace” as many scholar s of the bible will define this word as the unmerited favor of God toward man. Grace can also be defined as like forgiveness, repentance, regeneration and salvation to mean something as broad as describing the whole of God’s activity towards man or as narrow as describing one segment of activity (Baker’s Evangelical Bible Dictionary). Often times many would attribute grace toward s how women carry themselves and even in the bible grace can be defined through many scripture as action of one who are in high position. Biblical Foundation The first time Grace has been in mentioned was in Genesis chapter 8 because of Noah obedience to God and God was tired or as the bible scholar would state grieved by man’s wickedness and caused God to erase mankind. In all this, Noah found favor with God. Here the word favor and......

...Sasha Rosenberg BCOM 275 Career Plan Reflection Paper Ms Lea This course applies to my career plan because it will help me improve my communication skills. I see myself being a very successful entrepreneur in the future. My parents are both business owners, I have learned a lot from them. I have learned a lot in this course about sending messages, presentations, communication, etc. Not only will I apply what I have learned in my career, but also in my personal life. I feel like effective communication is needed and a lot of people lack in communication. In business it is important to make sure we are not only sending out the right messages, but also make sure we listen. When listening we do not only have to listen to what someone is saying, but make sure we observe their body language, facial expressions, eye contact, and listen to their tone of voice. Just because one is saying something, they might not be saying exactly what they are thinking. If someone says they are interested in the topic you are discussing with them and they don’t really engage in the conversation or have good eye contact they are probably not interested. The way one carries him or herself in a conversation says a lot about how well the presentation went. I would like to continue expanding my mom’s boutique and by doing so I have to make sure I am able to communicate well with everyone. I have to build a strong rapport with clients so they can refer our store and always come back. Also, I......

...Running Head: REFELECTION PAPER Reflection Paper NUR3805 Professor OrNah 11/09/2014 Reflection Paper Why do you think it is important for the nurse at the bedside that nursing is recognized as a discipline? The nursing profession is made up of several different subspecialties and career paths, which have developed a positive view on the nursing career. Marilyn Parker discusses how a discipline must have a clearly defined domain, which expresses the theory and focus of the profession. The traditional nurse is responsible for a wide array of roles such as: educator, advocate, counselor, and caregiver. The world’s view of the nursing profession is a well-distinguished career field. “The discipline of nursing is a community of scholars, including nurses in all venues, where nursing occurs.”(Parker, 2003, p. 8) I think it is important for the nurse at the bedside that nursing is recognized as a discipline because for centuries nurse theorist and other nurses have contributed to the success of the career. If I was asked what the normal blood flow through the heart is, I could easily consult my memory, my anatomy textbook, or search for the answer online. Thus, I know for certain that there is only one correct answer. Many questions that arise during bedside patient care are indeed science related and often have only one correct answer. On the other hand, during patient care there are several......

...Reflection Paper Brittany Clark February 7, 2015 I. Introduction Although I have been brought up in a Christian environment, it is through this class that I have delved into the meanings behind words that I have heard my entire life. They have a much richer and deeper meaning when looked at with detail, and are very important to know in order to understand our own salvation and relationship with Christ. In this paper, I will be covering two topics: the Trinity and the Death of Christ. II. Part One: The Trinity a. Theological Definition The word trinity in the Greek translates to “a set of three”. The trinity refers to the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. However, this does not mean that Christians are polytheistic. These three beings share one essence. God is singular in numerical terms, yet within God are three individual beings that make up the Trinity. A better understanding of this is looking at Jesus coming to earth as a man. “Although Jesus performed miracles, He was also subject to human limitations by experiencing hunger, and thirst. Even in doing miracles, He relied on the power of the Holy Spirit to do the will of His Father.” (Towns, pg. 8) The reason we know that Jesus is God is how he explained himself while here on earth. “Perhaps the greatest boast of all is when Jesus constantly claimed to be the great ‘I Am’ (Towns, pg. 12). Jesus did not claim to be like God, or even next in command, but he claimed to be God himself! He was the physical...

...Shaniqua S. Boyd Instructor: Hall, J March 6, 2015 THEO 104 Reflection Paper #2-Wisdom and Faith I. Introduction: As a Christian of God, having wisdom and faith are the key elements of your religion. How to practice faith is putting your trust in god instead of oneself. Faith is another way we as Christians humble ourselves to God by letting him have the power and authority over our lives. As Christians we also can expand in faith by seeking wisdom in God word. As we ask the lord for wisdom and knowledge to help us understand his word, we mature as Christians and are able to share his holy messages to others. II. Part One- Wisdom A. Theological Definition- What is Wisdom? Wisdom is the ability to discern what is right. Wisdom is not knowing good and evil, wisdom is knowing good from evil. So as we see it, wisdom is knowing what is good and seeking its application in life. B. Biblical Foundation- When we read the bible, the bible tells us that we should seek wisdom in God, not in ourselves or people out in the world. God states (Proverbs 3:7) “Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and shun evil. Wisdom does not come all at once. People gain wisdom with time, education, and experience. Meanwhile the knowledge that we use will only make us wiser when applying it to different situations in life. C. Practical Application- By being able to read the word of god, and having the wisdom and knowledge to understand the difference from good and bad, we......

...Morgan Perry THEO 104-D30 April 9, 2015 Reflection Paper INTRODUCTION: My first reflection paper will address temptation and Demons. I do not have a lot of knowledge in these subjects but I want to challenge myself in places I am not familiar with. However, temptation and demons have relation with one another so that’s why I chose these topics. These classes at Liberty University have definitely opened my mind to what it is to be a Christian and appreciate the morals and values I hold. Temptation and Demons are spoken of in the Bible and all over the world. I am excited to further my learning in these topics. THEOLOGICAL DEFINITION: What is temptation? Temptation is what moves us to sin. It is important to know that God does not tempt us to sin (Jas 1:13) and temptation is not to be equated with sin. Christ was tempted (Matt. 4) yet he never sinned (Heb. 4:15). James 1:12-16 is the definition of temptation. Great blessings are given to those who are tempted and remain faithful and your own desires lead you into temptation (James 1:12-16). We must be able to get to a point to resist temptation. It is also important to realize temptation is not sin. Sin is not to blame when we sin (Napier, 1993, para. 12). BIBLICAL DEFINITION: According to the Bible there are two definitions of temptation. Temptation was demonstrated in the Bible when God “tempted” Abraham (Gen. 22:1). In this case temptation meant a trial or being put to the test. Temptation can also mean......

...Terry Slobodzian April 20, 2015 Professor T Heck Reflection paper Meaning in Life This course opened my eyes about so many things. I don't think I have ever taken a course where the outcome came to be a better understanding of myself. We touched upon so many parts of life that I never really examined before this class. When I thought about myself I was doing rudimentary tasks to get through each class, each paper and each day. This class asked me to be happy. It also asked me to find that happiness within myself and my life. When I opened the models for the first time and noticed there would be a happiness journal that I would have to complete every week, my first thought was,"who could be that happy?" WhAt I learned was not a lesson about happiness but a lesson about me. In completing that assignment every week I came to know a different Hailey. I learned that my happiness lies in the fact that I face each new day full of enthusiasm and anticipation of a good and successful day. It turns out that if I start the day in this manner I expect it to be a good day and that tat he one for my day. I also learned that I best wY to maintain the good beginning is to maintain a happy attitude. Since I stared to look for the good in the day I have found a nicer person in myself. When I started this quest for happiness I would have to say that I perceived myself as having very low self esteem. When we reached that chapter in the textbook I found out that...

We chose this topic because, as students, we found how different students study in different styles interesting. We wanted to dive into the more specific details of these students study habits and work ethics. From studying early in the morning to reading various text books late at night, we though this could probably be caused by how they were raised and the environment they grew up in, especially regarding their parents’ treatment toward these students. Initially, we got major information we could use for our research during class. It was found that children behaved and grow up depending on how they were treated at home, after all, most of our lives start at home. Children with authoritarian parents, which entail parents who are very strict and implement rules just because they are the parent, tend to be rebellious and aggressive. Children with authoritative parents, or parents who stand in the center of strict control and leniency, tend to be obedient, responsible...

...Reflection Paper It was mid-day Tuesday on August 25th, I pull in Turner Avenue Garage Level 7, not having any money on me, I decided to change my parking ticket from the previous day, August 24th and change it to the 25th. At first I was thinking about doing it but I didn’t because I knew it was wrong and I left the parking garage. But two days later, on August 27th, using the same ticket from August 24th, running late to my 8am class, I decided to alter my parking ticket from the previous day. At the time it appeared to be a “good” yet foolish notion, in an urgent mindset to get to class with a hint of incautiousness, I used a sharpie and simply changed the date to the current date (August 27th). My desperation clearly clouded my judgment because the day before I knew how wrong it was to do something like that. After class I lost track of time and got busy with work. I parked at the garage from 8am and came back to the garage around 5pm, that was when I noticed my vehicle was missing; I was looking around the parking garage for a couple of minutes to see if I misplaced my parking spot but after awhile I finally asked two employees who were around the vicinity if they saw what had happened to my car. One of the gentlemen said if it wasn’t where I had left it, it might have been towed, and if that was the case, I should call MUPD. I did as he suggested and the campus police did verify that my vehicle was indeed towed and I had to pick it up at Tigers Towing. Left...

...Reflection Paper #1 Lee’s (2001) article opened my eyes to the intricate and diverse HRD world that I never quite considered before. I realized that my own definition of what I consider to constitute Human Resource Development is just a condensed version of the elaborate array of definitions I came across doing research on the field this summer. In reality, I did not take into context how dynamic the field can be and the overall complexity that must be measured when attempting to define HRD. I have always been one to learn by personal experiences, rather than being fed information from different sources. The article captivated my attention when Lee stated that her understanding of HRD was impacted by each experience she encountered and how it “shifted and changed according to that experience – and each experience influenced, and was influenced by, future experiences” (Lee, 2001). I felt like this related to me personally because I can see my own definition changing as time goes on and I face new experiences associated with defining Human Resource Development. It was also interesting to me how she made the analysis of often misrepresenting HRD “as a thing of being rather than a process of becoming” (Lee, 2001). I liked how she prodded on the fact that defining HRD actually withholds the process of becoming. I now see how determining a set definition of HRD takes away from how others might personally define it based on their own experiences. This article made me look......

...Melina S. Deanda Reflection Paper #1- Note Taking Throughout High School the format for taking notes was always the Cornell format. Although my teachers were always telling us to use the Cornell format, I felt uncomfortable, because I was so used to using the List format. I used the List format since I was in elementary and trying to teach myself to remember, that I was expected to use the Cornell format was difficult. But both formats resembled each other, in the way that they are easier to use when you're writing down definitions or explanations. I eventually learned to love using the Cornell format because it made taking notes look a bit more organized, and if I had to choose between both I would choose the Cornell format. Developing my vocabulary has always been a major goal of mine, and I definitely think I still need to work on expanding it. I believe that your vocabulary reflects on your education and if I want to be able to make a good impression on my future employers, speaking well and using a wide range of vocabulary would definitely help me and anyone that expands their vocabulary out. Having good vocabulary also helps with being able to choose words with better precision, by that I mean that you won't get tongue tied as much or would have to think about what to say when your in an interview and get hit with a complicated question. Overall developing your vocabulary improves your communication skills, and that is why I would like to develop mine further. ...

...REFLECTION PAPER Define Peace? It is a question that came out from my mind, and also was asked by our speaker during the advocacy. Peace is the absence of war and freedom from quarrels and disagreement or the presence of harmonious relations. In our own selves, we could experience this if we have a peace of mind. By the moment, I realized that I’ve been worrying about so many things that my mind couldn’t relax. I forgot to find time to meditate and forget all my problems and undone works. I should give justice to my body and find a time to rest. Another thing I thought of was the death of my co-Angelenean, who was murdered and still not given justice. Evil is everywhere and could attack us anytime, so we should always be wary and ask for God’s guidance and to protect us. Love could bring peace. If everyone has love in their hearts it could overcome hatred and would prevent any arguments, quarrels or worst. If we have love we could also forgive and forget what others have done wrong to us, reconcile and it could cause us a peace of mind. Justice, as what our speaker said, is giving what is due to others, while love is giving beyond what is due to others. Like our parents, who would always accept us and give us everything beyond what we needed for they want to make us happy, and that’s because of love. Now, not all people have love in their heart for not everyone fears God. That’s the reason why crime is everywhere and unfortunately, one of our......

...Research and Reflection Paper The most fundamentally important ideas in management are leadership, personality, motivation, decision-making and communication. In my experience, a good and effective manager or director is first and foremost a leader. A well-rounded manager or director has a personable personality and can engage and motivate a multitude of different personalities. In my experience, well-rounded managers and directors also have the ability to assess situations and people and make well-supported and smart decisions. Being a leader with a great personality who can motivate and make decisions goes hand in hand with great communication skills. Lastly, a great leader is not only well-rounded in communication, decision making, personality and motivation in the work place, but in every aspect of his or her life. The definition of a leader is “someone who can influence others and who has managerial authority.” (Robbins, Decenzo, Coulter, 2001. P300) First, I feel that a manager must possess the ability to lead. From what I have learned in this class, and experience, the word manager and the word leader are two very different ideas and types of people. A manager is someone who directs people to complete tasks on a day-to-day basis. A leader is someone who not only does that of a manager, but also someone who leads their team to accomplish the larger goal or vision of the company. In my opinion, a manager can be a manager without possessing leadership......
