Organization and Management of a Health Care Facility

I am proud to introduce the leadership team of 21st Century Solutions Health Care Hospital. 21st Century Hospital is part of the World One Health System which includes numerous hospitals and clinics throughout the state. Our leadership team consists of 16 highly educated individuals with varying backgrounds. Each member is well experienced and well respected in each of their particular fields of expertise. I feel privileged to work with so many outstanding individuals. First we have our President of the hospital. This individual is our chief operating officer. He is in charge of all operations here at 21st Century hospital and the six outlying clinics. He oversees about 5,600 coworkers. He has a BS in business and has earned a MBA. Our COO has served as senior vice president of operations and ambulatory services where he managed several different areas including ambulatory care, cardiac care and physicians’ services. Under his skillful leadership, we have constructed several new health complexes, a surgical center and sleep center. He has been able to add more than 100 new physicians. Next we have our Vice President of Medical Affairs. This person services as the Chief Medical Officer/Chief Medical Information Officer. This officer is a seasoned MD and is mainly responsible for the medical staff, quality programs and regulatory compliance. Our Vice President of Surgical Services is responsible for overall management of our surgery program. She has a master’s degree in nursing and many years of nursing experience. Our General Counsel is an attorney whose duties are to determine, manage and direct our legal affairs.

A steady and consistent cash flow can help improve the hospitals borrowing power, which will increase and maintain the income level. Capital Shortage My challenge was to decide on the best strategy to solve the cash flow problem at Elijah Heart Center (EHC). In addition, I had to implement two measures to achieve a cost saving target of $750,000 for the first quarter. In order to cover the remaining shortfall, I recommended “Reducing Proportion of Agency Contracted Staff.” Implementing this strategy will reduce costs drastically without any significant change in revenue. By reducing the number of contracted staff, EHC can save money on the premiums and management fees, which are paid to the agency in lieu of providing personnel. This implementation will reduce cost drastically, due to the hospital paying twice the amount to contracted staff, then personnel employed by the hospital. My next recommendation is changing the skill mix by hiring unlicensed assistive personnel. This is a good option for saving cost in the long run. The “Revenue and Expenditure Projections” indicates cost will increase in the beginning but it will increase the revenue significantly in the following months. Furthermore, this will save the hospital $811,249 by the first quarter, which will exceed the target set. Description of Patient experience Patient A shared that she was hospitalized at Columbia University to undergo a Thymecthomy in September 2014. The patient was diagnosed in late 2005 with Myasthenia Gravis. This was patient A’s second time being hospitalized. The patient had been hospitalized in 2006 at George Washington University after having a Myasthenia Gravis crisis. However, this was Patient A’s first time having a surgery. Myasthenia Gravis is a chronic disease, and the chances of remission are rare. Thymecthomy has in certain cases improved the patient’s health after . An invasive one which would require an incision, or a minimally invasive one, where cameras would be inserted on the side of the chest area, leaving very little scars, and allowing for a much faster to recovery time.
