Ob Problem

...OB Problem: Kaiser Pharmacy has a challenging work environment for new hires. Upon investigating I have found that, the pharmacy has a high turnover rate due to a strong social environment (culture). The pharmacy has only a 50% retention rate and employees have left their jobs because they were unable to understand the culture and regulations at our pharmacy. New employee might be transitioning from different ethnic or organizational culture so it is challenging for them to adopt new methods and styles we have implemented and that creates friction in the high volume pharmacy. It is my belief that new employees are unable to quickly mesh with our strong environment and to adopt regulations are the Organizational Behavior (OB) problem at this location. These issues can lead to a decrease in morale and productivity. Clearly, there is room for improvement. To overcome these challenges, I am implementing new employee onboarding program starting with the group of 3 new hires. Onboarding program will enable them to understand the pharmacy’s culture and regulations, which can enhance employee moral, productivity and ultimately job satisfaction. Steps I am going to take are: * Implement 6 weeks long “Onboarding Program” * Formal and informal onboarding * Heads up on what to expect on 1st day of work * Provides instruction on parking, map for hospital and where to meet * Facilitate group discussion * Get there name badge ready * Post welcome memo...

...OB/Peds March 11, 2014 Community Resources Paper     The Risks and Education of Teenage Pregnancy                 The at-risk group that I chose to research is teenage pregnancy, and the education and risks associated with it. I selected this topic because I feel like it is essential to teach our children all the risk and responsibilities that come with the decision to become sexually active, before they become sexually active. If teens are taught the essentials about pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections, and are educated on the resources available, they will be able to make an informed decision before making a crucial decision. I feel that when abstinence is all that is taught by parents, our children are too scared to ask about sexually transmitted infections and pregnancy, and don’t know about the resources available to them to prevent both. Teenagers who are sexually active have no idea all of the different resources available to help them to prevent pregnancy and spreading sexually transmitted infections. When they become sexually active they are afraid that they are going to get in trouble for not being abstinent which further increases their chance of getting pregnant or spreading infections because they are too scared to ask about it before they put themselves in the situation. Among the most conservative states I found the following.                 “Mississippi continues to have the highest teeth birth rate, with 55 births per 1,000 girls. New......

Ob on the Edge

...250 OB ON THE EDGE The Toxic Workplace It’s not unusual to find the following employee behaviours in today’s workplace: Answering the phone with a “yeah,” neglecting to say thank you or please, using voice mail to screen calls, leaving a half cup of coffee behind to avoid having to brew the next pot, standing uninvited but impatiently over the desk of someone engaged in a telephone conversation, dropping trash on the floor and leaving it for the maintenance crew to clean up, and talking loudly on the phone about personal matters.1 Some employers or managers fit the following descriptions: In the months since [the new owner of the pharmacy] has been in charge [he] has made it clear that he is at liberty to fire employees at will . . . change their positions, decrease their bonus percentages, and refuse time-off and vacation choices. Furthermore, he has established an authoritarian work structure characterized by distrust, cut-backs on many items deemed essential to work comfort, disrespect, rigidity and poor-tono-communication.2 He walked all over people. He made fun of them; he intimidated them. He criticized work for no reason, and he changed his plans daily.3 251 What’s Happening in Our Workplaces? Workplaces today are receiving highly critical reviews, being called everything from “uncivil” to “toxic.” Lynne Anderson and Christine Pearson, two management professors from St. Joseph’s University and the University of North Carolina, respectively, note that......

...From my statement of intent, I decided to explore the theme decay as it linked in well with the title natural forms. This is because I wanted to include a lot of texture within my work and by exploring this theme I was able to achieve this within several aspects. The things that particularly attracted me to this theme were the different aspects of which decay can happen in because decay is a natural form that can occur to almost anything over time. They also give the audience a disturbing emotion when observing the images such as the images within my mood board (pages 3 and 5 mainly). After getting inspiration from my mood board I decided to take a variety of photographs some of which represent the theme I was aiming to explore. However I feel as though the most successful images throughout my initial photos were the ones shown on page 22. This is due to the fact I feel as though these images contained good texture as well as depth of field. The tone used within these images also contributes to achieving my aims. This is as a result of the fact that the darkness is shown in a way that is also creeping into the images which furthermore, suggests that the darkness takes over the images. Therefore meaning that the darkness represents death and the lighter areas suggest life. However I feel as though I should have linked the images to my theme in more relevant ways therefore I would have related my images more to the theme, decay. Within phase one, I feel as though my images......

...behavior which are individuals in organizations, group and team process and organizational process really relate to my workplace. Individuals in organizations would mean myself. I am an individual at my workplace. I act and think differently while I am at work than I am at home or outside of work. The way I act affects the way I work. That is by the way my personality is. For example, I am an outgoing and happy person, so my job is very easy and never stressful. There is a lot of team work and a goal to achieve by the end of the night, for example that is a group and team process. The organization has to clear the call queue before the night shift employees leave. Our goal as a team is to assist each caller within 2-3 minutes and end the night on a good note. The organization process requires the whole organization to work together and to have good call times. The company is required to have a certain amount of calls a month and a certain goal to meet. It is not strict but we do work together as a whole to accomplish our goals and results. Organization behavior is necessary for managers because they need to use every function possible to make the organization flow without any problems. They need to understand organizational behavior because it is a very large part of their job. When being a manager, OB (organizational behavior) will benefit me in so many ways. It will allow me to evaluate the way people work and how to show them how to work much better and effectively.......

...one of which was the socialist women union. Hitler appointed Gertrud Scholtz-Klink a position, which she held until 1945. Scholtz-klink was appointed as the head of the women’s bureau so held an important role. Women were not given leading roles so this was an important step for a woman holding a role of great responsibility. Crew substantiates Stephenson’s argument and states that women were, ‘given their own public sphere,’ thus can be seen as an improvement in their status as they were given their own sphere to develop. However, the role of the woman group was to work for the good of the Nazi government. Scholtz kink main role was to make Hitler look heroic and indoctrinate women with the belief that they were born to be mothers. ‘Women, I wish to try briefly to make clear what the deepest calling we women have is: motherhood’. Therefore women status did not improve in Nazi Germany as the women who were involved in politics were passing on Hitler’s messages, so did not do anything to change their own rights for the better. However political groups had no power. Pine argues that ‘women’s status had by no means deteriorated in caparison to the Weimar era.’ This suggests that women’s political position deteriorated after the Weimar Republic and therefore women’s status cannot be considered to have improved during the Nazi regime. DFW’s leaders were indoctrinated with the same thought and ideas Hitler had, and these were that men were superior to women. This is evident......

...Behaviour Individual case, assignment 1: Defining a Challenge What is the challenge or problem you are facing or want to study that is related to OB, management or leadership? I’m founder of a little firm based in Italy, after 6 years, started from scratch, I have 4 employees and they work from Vicenza, my city, where the firm is based. We did 500K in sales in 2015. The problem I’m facing is that I’m far from the firm and my employees know it, I need to motivate and empower them in order to leverage the quality and the efficiency of the workflow. I need to be able to rely on them because I can’t be present every day and they are the biggest part of the firm, I’m 1 person and they are 4 (they could be more within the end of the year) Why is this important to organizations? It’s important because every organization, for definition, it’s composed by more than one person, and there isn’t enough time to do all of the task on your own. That’s means that you are forced to delegate to others. The problem is that without the right commitment and power of the people of your firm, it’s almost impossible to succeed in the competitive arena. Identify the other stakeholders involved in this challenging situation. In order to do so I need to interact with my employees and most in general with all of the company’s stakeholders, I have to motivate work force but at the same give us the best environment they could find in a firm. ...
