Nutrition and fitness are important to living a healthy, well-balanced life. Healthy fitness and nutritional habits improve health by promoting healthy body weight, reducing risk for chronic diseases, and foster optimal wellness. Evaluation of my current fitness and nutritional habits helped me to identify areas for improvement to my physical health. I will choose three healthy fitness and nutritional habits that I can incorporate into my lifestyle.

My eating habits can be described as meal skipping, lacking fruits and vegetables, and nutrient and vitamin deficit. In addition to this, my water intake is almost nonexistent. My current fitness routine is minimal. I do not have a regular exercise plan. I drive to most places I go to. The only physical activity I get occurs when I’m doing household chores and light gardening. I go dancing with a group of friends once a week.

This course has empowered me to “take charge” of my health. Using resources available to me to collaborate with, educate, and support me, I will become an active participant in my health. Lifestyles changes can lead to long-term changes that encourage better health and weight loss. “Lifestyle changes in diet and levels of physical activity improve the health of entire communities” (Riemer, 2009, p. 1). I must set goals to maintain my health and aim for an optimal level of wellness and quality of life. This requires me to take responsibility for my actions and choices. It is very important to be educated about our health. This course has provided me with resourceful information and techniques for getting my health on track.

Chicken is a good source of protein when it is not soaked in olive oil and the extra fattening products that can be added. Grilling the chicken cuts back the intake of lipids. An unhealthy lipid would be a hamburger. Either way you get the hamburger meat whether you get the patties ready or make them yourselves, they are filled with grease. Unlike chicken, the grease stays in the hamburger patty. There are also healthy and unhealthy amino acids and proteins. Fish would be a good example of healthy protein. It is considered on of the best intakes for protein. It is not only good for that, but helps the brain too. An example for an unhealthy amino acid and protein would be maltodextrin. This is used is in artificial dietary fiber. It is made from corn and is very hard to digest. One thing it does do is make a person feel full for the meantime. As bad as it is, I like some fatty foods such as hamburgers. I do not eat them every day, but they are fast and easy. Chicken is very good as well. It is so easy to eat junk food. It is so convenient and so fast to either grab or even make at home. One thing I do not like AT ALL is fish, any of it. This inclusion is not much different than the general orientation, occupational counseling or freshman seminar classes that are often a requirement for all students, allowing the student to earn partial class points towards the GPA. The only significant variation is that the usual “introduction to college” requirements that foster success focus on the students’ quality of life from a different perspective. Yet, in either case, the information conveyed is beneficial to all students and certainly promotes a greater well-being, as well as the success and quality of life that comes from that. The educational element of the intervention is discussed in greater detail below. Nutrition & Diabetes Education The mandated course will focus on healthy nutrition and include discussion pertaining to how this influences the emergence and progression of chronic diseases, specifically Diabetes. The predominant focus would be on making healthy food choices. Though fairly simple and cost-efficient, current research evidence finds that this basic education has produced a statistically significant reduction in consumption of fast foods, such as fries, while promoting consumption of fruits and vegetables in a healthy capacity (Ha & Caine-Bish, 2009). Scientists and health professionals have realized that this level of activity is excessive for most people. In addition, it has been discovered that do not need to strive both to obtain the benefits that exercise contributes to our health. Brisk walking or almost all the days for approximately thirty minutes helps improve physical and mental well-being. Physical exercise in brief sessions, for example, two or three sessions of ten minutes each, is almost as effective as exercise steadily during the same time and is easier to adapt to the pace of life today. For those who don't like or making it impossible to do exercise in a planned way, the fact to avoid or reduce the time spent in sedentary activities can be equally beneficial. For example, the simple fact of stand for one hour a day instead of sitting down to watch TV consumes the equivalent of 1-2 kg of fat per year. Obese people should choose carefully the type of exercise they are going to perform in order to avoid any injury to the joints caused by the practice of intense activities in which they have to support their own weight. American’s are becoming less healthy each year causing more obesity across the country. People are not as active, making poor eating choices, staying indoors more often and always on the run resulting in an unhealthy and less active society. The Origin of my current attitude about reading and writing My immediate family all home schooled but I am pretty sure every one of us has a different story to tell about our origin of reading and writing. For me, it was not easy at first but it became easier when everything fell into place. My mother was diagnosed with a disease condition known as dyslexia while she was still in school but she struggled through it and graduated from high school despite the fact that she was bullied almost every step of her school year. With this notion, I see onsite schooling as a challenge I may not be able to conquer.
