National society if leadership and success
I feel very proud of myself that I took the great challenge of founding the Bowling Green State University (Ohio State) chapter of the National Society of Leadership and Success. The organization has been a big success at my school. Currently my school's chapter has been nominated for two outstanding awards, "Best Student Organization" and "Most Innovative Program Award," out of the 250 Student Organizations at BGSU.

I included the National Society of Leadership and Success on my resume, and during my interviews, I was asked what the Society was all about. I told the recruiters that the Society is a national student organization with a mission: "To help college students create the lives they desire by helping them discover what they truly want to do, and giving them the support, motivation, and tools to achieve their goals." I also told the recruiters about the Society's monthly live satellite teleconferences, which features award-winning speakers/educators. These two Fortune 500 organizations were very impressed about the activities of the Society. I was told that having a good GPA was simply not enough to secure a great job upon graduation. To have a great job, a smart student ought to develop time management, goal-setting, interpersonal, teamwork, planning, and leadership skills while in college. Most of these skills aren't taught in the classroom, but could be developed by joining student organizations like the National Society of Leadership and Success. I have the pleasure to inform you that I succeeded in getting both job offers and will be joining Ernst & Young upon graduation.

I would like to use this opportunity to advise every student to be an active member of the National Society of Leadership and Success. Every student should also realize that he/she is the master of his/her own fate, the architect of…...

Corporate Culture Is Largely Influenced by National Culture and Sustained by Corporate Leadership.

...Corporate culture is largely influenced by national culture and sustained by corporate leadership So many civilisations exist today; all rich with individual cultural heritage and each, distinct with unique features, characteristics, and value systems. Therefore it holds that countries have their individual and distinct cultures which are unique and which apply to them. Consequently, these cultures get infiltrated and remodelled to form part of the culture of organizations as well as influences the decision making behaviour of the corporate leadership system or process. Geert Hofstede, considers that ‘Culture is the collective programming of the mind distinguishing the members of one group or category of people from others’. It could be seen a range of values and meanings shared among individuals and entities belonging to a group, body or category. National culture is regarded as shared meanings, [conscious or unconscious] promoted among people existing within or originating from a country or state and is therefore regarded as the basic value system measure from which organizational values and corporate culture [which is understood as the belief systems or set of values shared that governs behaviours and attitudes within a corporate organization or entity] is developed. A company's corporate leadership (which is constituted of the top executives who govern its operations and plot its strategies for the future,) therefore has the responsibility to uphold this value......

The Role of National Culture on Leadership

... Executive Summary The aim for this thesis is to answer the problem statement: How do national cultures influence leadership styles? To give an answer to this question, this thesis is divided into three parts: leadership, national culture and the connection between them. The conclusion of this thesis is based on analytical and exploratory research. The first part, on leadership, focuses on mainly two types of leadership: transactional and transformational leadership. Transactional leadership is mainly based on the transaction between leaders and their followers. Bass described four components of transactional leadership: Contingent reward, Active management by exception, Passive management by exception and Laissez-Faire leadership (1997). Transformational leadership focuses mainly on inspiring and stimulating the followers. Transformational leadership contains also four components: Idealized influence (Charisma), Inspirational motivation, Intellectual stimulation and Individualized consideration. The second part focuses on different studies on national culture: Hofstede (1983), Schwartz (1990) and Inglehart (1997). Each study has different values and dimensions, both all three studies show some similarities. The first similar dimension contains: Hofstede’s Power distance, Schwartz’ Hierarchy versus Egalitarianism and Inglehart’s Survival and measures the degree to which the people in a national culture accept and expect the unequal distribution of power. The second similar......

The National Rifle Association and Career Success

...The National Rifle Association and Career Success Francisco Diaz GEN200 September 28, 2010 Professor Carla A. Lord The National Rifle Association The National Rifle Association, formally known as the American Rifle Association is an association that has interested me so much I became a member. Established in 1871, the NRA was dedicated to voicing the second amendment (the right to bear arms) of the United States of America Bill of Rights and instructing others on how to safely and correctly operate a firearm. Today, they are a non-profit organization whose efforts have shifted not only towards the protection of the second amendment, but also the protection of their fellow members if ever wrongfully prosecuted for a weapons related charge. The NRA also offers their members other great benefits and services. The National Rifle Association is a book of knowledge. Thus they contribute towards increasing my professional knowledge and abilities in many ways. The NRA always keeps me informed and updated on any new legal or political issues and training. It is important to be cognizant of any and all legal or political issues. Not only to ensure your future, but also to stay in compliance of the law. Not knowing the law only increases ones chances of breaking it. This is especially true for those who own a concealed weapons license (CCW) and actually carry as I myself do. This knowledge affects my career success not only directly, but more indirectly. My......

Leadership Approach for Success

...MEMO Date: March 31, 2014 From: To: John Doe Cc: Re: Leadership Approach for Success Thank you for the opportunity to lead a new team to execute the organization’s strategic plan. I will make every effort to lead the team to achieve its goals. To effectively manage the team and ensure everyone work cohesively, I need to understand his or her values, motivations, needs, and interests. To uncover the personality differences, my team and I have taken the personality assessment to get a better understanding of our personality type. My leadership approach will depend on the dynamics of personality types within the team. Learning more about my personality traits can help me understand my strengths and weaknesses, and how I can effectively interact with my team members. Learning about my team members' personalities can help me develop the ability to view situations from their perspectives and improve my management skills. The assessment shows that my personality type is an ESTJ. I am an extrovert who finds my energy by being around others. I am quite realistic, logical, decisive, and like to run a business in an organized manner. The first team member personality type is an ENTJ. She is also an extrovert. Her personality type appears to be argumentative, has some tolerance for incompetence, and often seen as a natural leader. The second team member personality type is an INTP. This personality type is socially cautious, likes problem solving, and highly conceptual. The......

...community, done without compensation and with a positive, courteous, and enthusiastic spirit. Community service is a very important factor when it comes to bettering your society. Through my own experiences and my years in the National Honor Society I have observed and come to support my beliefs of how important Service is. What I have learned about my community is, to give back to those who give or simply just to do something nice for someone else without being told/paid to do. Community service to me is what I would do to help my peers and community enjoy themselves at the cost of making them as well as my self, feel good that someone went out of their way to make their experience(s) fun and enjoyable. I am pleased to say everyone in this room carries the willingness to make a better community. I have gotten to know a better me in how I act towards different people and what I say to them. To me I think this shows an incredible charisma in how a person can change and make a difference so quickly The value and importance of community service in our society shows greatness within the National Honor Society. Without community service in our society many people would not know the meaning, usefulness, or importance of charity. Serving in your community takes away from the problems that exist in your society and in the world as a whole....

Leadership in Society

...Christina Paskow Brook S. Edwards Writing II 10 November 2014 Leadership in Society Steven Johnson’s “The Myth of the Ant Queen” is broken down into 3 categories: the city of Manchester, emergence of the complexity theory, and as the title states, the myth of the ant queen. It opens with Deborah Gordon showing the author, Steven Johnson, the ant colonies and how they develop. Gordon’s work, “Focuses on the connections between the micro behavior of individual ants and the overall behavior of the colonies themselves, and part of that research involves tracking the life cycles of the individual colonies, following them year after year as they scour the desert floor for food, competing with other colonies for territory, and once a year they mate with them” (Johnson 193). She is a student, in other words of a particular kind of emergent, self-organizing system The queen of the ants is not as the name suggests, the queen of an ant colony has no political or authoritative significance in the colony. The queen of the ant colony lays eggs and is cared for by other ants, not the dictator of what the other ants do. What Gordon’s work suggests and then supports is that ants do not have a set authoritative figure, they are a self-organizing society. The ants have three main parts to their way of living: the midden which is the town dump, the cemetery, and the main colony. “Look at what actually happened here: they’ve built the cemetery at exactly the point that’s furthest away......

Leadership and Organizational Success

...Leadership and Organizational Success Introduction Leadership has been defined as the process of describing a vision and influencing others to accomplish a mission or assignment (Borkowski, 2009). Being able to adapt and grow is an important component of good leadership because organizations are living entities in the sense that they change and grow over time. This means that leaders have to constantly match the right style of leadership to the present needs of the organization in order to guide it to the next level of development (Laureate Education, Inc., 2009). The merger of BRMC and PRMC called for a particular style of leadership in order to merge the two distinct cultures present at each organization (Buchbinder & Shanks, 2012). The following outline will explore different aspects of leadership and apply those aspects to needs arising from this merger. Distinction between leadership and management Managers • Direct the work of employees and devise systems to monitor employees’ progress toward achieving preset goals • Determine how to achieve preset goals and are responsible for achieving them • Tell employees to accomplish a particular task or objective • Handle activities through planning and budgeting • Achieve their goals by organizing and staffing • Create an organizational structure and sets of jobs for accomplishing the organization’s strategies (Borkowski, 2009, p.172) Leaders • Set direction or mission for the organization • Motivate the......

The Reasons for the Success of the National Party's 1948 Election

...“The National Party Election victory was down to their policy of Apartheid.” – How far do you agree with this statement? Critically, this statement can be deemed as true to a great degree because the clear-cut, appealing Apartheid policy that Malan and the National Party stood for was the rallying point for the party to base all their arguments on. Equally, it is evident that other subsequent reasons such as the weaknesses of the United Party’s manifesto and previous existence in government – as well as the National Party’s effective ability to highlight this –were ultimately highly influential in giving rise to the victory of the National Party. As put by Dan O’Meara in his works from 1996, the election can be seen as “not won by the National Party, but lost by the government”. Following, are the reasons that stay true to the statement and also differing reasons which hold valuable placement on why the National Party victory occurred in 1948. Primarily, the National Party’s policy of Apartheid was so effective because it appealed to the electorate. The voting populace of South Africa came from a high majority of white Afrikaners - with the only “coloured” voters coming from the wealthy Black Cape Province - which made up 25% of the country’s population in total. Therefore, the policies of Apartheid which promised racial segregation and offered protection and comfort for the white workers who were beginning to feel their job security was in jeopardy after the war......
