Do you believe an extended recession could completely change gender roles in the United States? First of all, I do not believe an extended recession would have a dramatic effect on gender roles. Even men who were affected by the recession and lost their jobs spend just about as much time caring for their children as their working spouse does. Society at this point expects the man to be the sole breadwinner of the household and the recession is not having a dramatic effect on this. Men are not expected to tend to housework but to search for more work in order to provide for their family. I believe this is due to the way we as a society view masculinity and the role of the man in the household. In my opinion, I don’t believe it’s so much the recession but how we as a society view gender roles in America.

Do companies have a responsibility to raise women’s salaries to accommodate their roles as primary breadwinners? Why or why not?

Yes I believe that all companies do have an obligation to provide just as much pay to women as they do to men. If a women can do all the same work as well, if not better than their male counterpart then why wouldn’t they deserve just as much as men? I believe the fact that a women who is working full time only makes between 77 percent to 80 percent of her male counterpart working full time is a travesty. this notion that women are traditionally not the breadwinners in the household therefore they get less pay is an archaic idea to say the least. I believe that even if the women is not necessarily the sole breadwinner of the household she should still be rewarded equally for the same work as her male…...

...Genetic Diversity Issues Genetic diversity can be seen everywhere we look. These differences give us variety whether we are talking about humans, animals, insects, or plants. These same differences can cause issues over time, however. When we discuss genetic diversity it involves mutations, sexual reproduction, migration, and population size. All four of these factors add to the variety we see every day and are deeply intertwined and can be problematic. Mutations occur when new genetic information is introduced to a population within a species and modify the alleles that currently exist. Some mutations can be harmful to one species and not affect the other. For example, if an insect is a carrier of a disease causing allele, the insect can transmit this disease to a human if stung. Initially, it may just be a few insects that are troublesome. Over time, mutations can occur that enable a significant number of insects to be carriers. This would now be considered a major issue for humans. Sexual reproduction is responsible for passing these alleles along through generations. It does not create new alleles but it does form different sets of genetic combinations due to varying partners.
