1) What is the Organization Type of ICEDELIGHTS (the Franchisee)? Why?

a. Product/Service
i. Their objective is to own a business and survive as entrepreneurs, nothing too extreme. They have projections, but no real formal strategic objectives besides make a profit.
1. They displayed formal projections and profit margins for the next 10 years, but no real plan of how they will go about it.
2. They have a plan of attack for investors: go after contacts of Mr. Rogers, but no real plan of how to convince them. ii. Leadership is craftsmen/technicians in the sense that they want to use their HBS experience in management, as well as their technical experience in Finance.

Why? • Promotional organization because they are supporting the Icedelights franchise. • They were bringing an innovated product to Florida since there were very few gelato shops in the state. • They had extreme objectives when starting the franchise Icedelights in Florida. • Because there were a large number of risks there was high level of uncertainty in starting the franchise. 2.) ...exactly what they want in a business. The result is that they ended up looking confused and unprepared in front of all of their peers. They then decided to create a specifications sheet that was too broad to be effective. In the end, it was a business opportunity through Paul's father that brought them to Icedelights. The specification sheet they drew up was pointless as it was very vague and didn’t give them a proper strategy to follow. They said they were interested in acquiring a manufacturing firm engaged in the production of Industrial and/or Consumer Goods and listed several examples. However, they ended up going for Icedelights that is not a manufacturing firm, and did not fall into any of the categories that they drew up. In addition, they listed an existing sales volume of $5,000,000 to $10,000,00 as a qualification, and yet went to startup a brand new business with a limited existing sales volume at all. They also stated that they were looking for a business in the Northeast, and they ended up starting a business in Florida. Lastly, they wrote that they wanted a basic product with an established market, and Icedelights “Gelati” ice cream is not a basic product.
