Week 6 Case Study

...There has been some discussion recently about the market in which we should target for our organic hummus product in the United States. As our marketing director has discovered people are turning to hummus as a healthy alternative to many of the common dips and spreads in the U.S. The trend is towards organic, healthy eating and our low-calorie hummus fits perfectly into this trend. This is the target market that we are going to focus our marketing efforts on. We can market the hummus as a healthy snack or meal for the whole family and display the benefits on the box for the customer to see. On the back of the box we can feature healthy cut out recipes that have one dip recipe and one recipe for children. This will help people who may not have had as much exposure to hummus to understand its versatility and benefits. The people who have been eating hummus for generations are going to continue to purchase our hummus because of the quality. To keep the packaging somewhat traditional I agree with the brand manager’s suggestion of using Aramaic-looking font and Mediterranean colors for the logo. Also, I found a great article in the Tuscaloosa News about hummus being the next big thing. It is great to see press like this and I strongly encourage all of you to take a look at this great article. Here is the link: http://www.tuscaloosanews.com/article/20070228/NEWS/702280308/1005/SPORTS0106?p=2&tc=pgP Please let me know if there are any questions regarding our focus......

Hummus Bar

...Hummus Bar A Companies culture is defined as the beliefs and behaviors that determine how a company's employees and management interacts and handles its outside business transactions. Often, the culture of a company is implied, not expressly defined, and develops organically over time from the cumulative traits of the people the company hires. A company's culture will be reflected in its dress code, business hours, office setup, employee benefits, turnover, hiring decisions, treatment of clients, client satisfaction and every other aspect of operations. (Kroeber, A. L. & Kluckhohn, C., 2012) Whenever a new employee enters a company the socialization process towards the companies culture takes place through two distinct ways: 1. The employee is exposed to the socialization tactics of the company 2. The employee seeks information about his role and the culture of the company. This eventually leads to the adjustment of the employee to its new role and the company’s culture, improving his job performance, increasing his fit and commitment towards the organization and decreasing its turnover. The organizational socialization represents six different aims: Goals and Values, Performance Proficiency, language, history, politics and people. The given case “Surviving Plant Worlds Hard Times” illustrates a friendly and open culture implemented from the very first day on from the founder of the company Myta Ong. During the growth of her company she spent less time......

Soil Ec and Ph Using 3 Types of Extractant Solutions on Different Soil Samples

...Using this method will usually give a reading of 1 unit lower than using pure water (Brady & Weil 2008). These three methods are used in different parts of the world therefore when interpreting pH results the method used in testing is required knowledge (Brady & Weil 2008). Question 3, Differences in the buffering capacity of soils are dependent on their composition, soils with higher amounts of clay particles, different types of clay particles and or hummus will give a soil a greater buffering capacity than soils with less. Hummus has multiple sites of holding capacity for H+ ions, this is to do with its complex structure and its ability to hold H+ ions at different strengths (Brady & Weil 2008). To raise pH a material is needed to soak up H+ ions, in the case of CaCO3 (lime) being added Ca+ will disassociate H+ will form H2O with 1 oxygen atom from CO3, and CO2 will be released as a gas, resulting in soaking up of H+ ions meaning a rising pH. However as the pH rises more H+ will be released from hummus particles to offset the application of lime where a soil with more organic matter means more H+ ions released which means higher buffering capacity. In the case of clay particles enhancing buffering capacity of a soil it is to do with aluminium and silicon particles attracted to colloid surfaces that hold H+ ions with relation to the OH- concentration. In acid soils Al3+ ions are much more common than H+ ions on colloid surfaces and these Al3+ ions will split......

Hummus

...GM and Toyota opened a assembly plant in Fremont, California in 1984 to manufacture vehicles to be sold under both brands. The collaboration could be beneficial to GM because it was an opportunity to learn how a Japanese company operates and how to combine techniques to eventually make a plant that exceeds all others. The main goal of both companies was to learn how each other operates to mimic the management style and operations. It was also beneficial to Toyota because they could learn to operate in an American environment. The factory which was built by GM was taken over by the New United Motor Manufacturing, Inc. (NUMMI). The plan was to have car produced under Toyotas supervision in a Japanese way. When the joint venture failed both companies pulled out but GM first. When GM pulled out the plant was no longer viable. The main reason the plant closed was because the plant was not built to survive without a partner. Workers were afraid to lose jobs and mainly benefits. A lot of the burden was on shipping parts back and forth to facilities. When NUMMI reopened, GM workers were rehired. From that point things had to change from the old style of operations. Employee's were treated with equality and with respect. Under Toyotas system who set up a spot in the refurbished plant after reopening. Teams were organized. Jobs were rotated and employee's were given control over personal work processes. The operations system worked mainly my breaking down the job......

...meats such as chicken, lamb, and beef. However, there are also great dishes such as Falafel for vegetarians. Falafels are small fried round patties that are made from beans. They are usually a light-brown color, but may also be a greenish color from adding green vegetables such as cilantro or parsley. Served with these dishes is usually a side plate of their bread known as Pita bread (Heller, 2006). In ancient times of Egypt, people were served bread that was made by grounding the wheat and then cooked over a fire and with this bread they were also served beans. The variety of beans served included fava, lentils, and chickpeas. This is where the idea of Hummus, a favorite appetizer among Middle Eastern people, came about. Hummus is a chickpeas puree that is served with green olives and a small amount of olive oil. Hummus is usually eaten with the Pita bread as a healthy appetizer dish. For many Middle Eastern families, it is important that guests are served some of the homes favorite dishes. This includes various dips, cheeses, salads, and sometimes even fried meats and vegetables (Heller, 2006). As I entered the Caspian Restaurant I noticed the beautiful decorations behind the loud piercing music in the background. Anywhere my eyes would turn there were statues and pictures of ancient times. The tall white pillars in the restaurant and the pure white walls made the restaurant seem as if it was a palace. I had never seen a restaurant as beautiful as this one. ......
