Joyce Davis
HSM 260
December 2, 2012

Final Project: Analyzing Financial Statements Financial statements provide a nonprofit human service, with a detailed account of financial records that shows how the company finances are managed. A financial statement provides the company with records that show how their finances were handled in the past. It also allows a company to look at where the company is heading financially. It is very important that a company evaluate their financial statements. In doing this the company will be aware of changes that need to be fixed in the budget. This can prevent an agency from going under. It will also permit them to continue provide services to the needy within the society. The XYZ Corporation provides psychiatric counseling to the indigent in El Paso Texas. The writer will provide a detailed financial analysis of the corporation’s finances. Listed below the reader will be able to see the company’s financial ratios, and they are: Current ratio, long-term solvency ratio, contribution ratio, programs/expense ratio, general, and management/expense ratio, fund-raising expense ratio, and revenue expense ratio for the years 2003 and 2004. Ratio table # 1 for the years 2003-2004:

Long-Term Solvency Ratio | 1.38 | 2.06 |

Programs/Expense Ratio | 1.0 | 1.11 | general and Management/Expense Ratio | .28 | .23 |
Fundraising/expense Ratio |0.004 |
Revenue/Expense Ratio | .94 | 1.11 |

The importance of each ratio for the XYZ Corporation, is to show whether the nonprofit organization has improved or not financially over the last three years. ...be very successful and often generate more than the original funding goal. Tickets should be priced accordingly, based on the prize to be rewarded. Non-traditional approaches to funding are things like fundraising contests. Technology and social media have become a large factor in fundraising. Web sites like gofundme.com, provide resources for generating funds at no cost to the person running the account. Online auctioning could also be another approach to non-traditional funding. The agency would set up an account on EBay Giving Works and ask supporters to sell their items through the agency as the beneficiary. With this method, supporters can search for the company and purchase items where the money will go directly to the agency. The Final Picture The financial picture for the XYZ Corporation is looking good, based on the records from 2002 to 2004. From 2002 to 2004 the profit margins have displayed significant increase proving that the agency’s mission to provide psychiatric counseling services for residents of El Paso County will be fulfilled. If the company continues to generate profit at the current rate, they could double their client count in the future years. Keeping up with changes in technology and society and being aware of how the agency can impact human services and increase funding is the key to meeting that future goal. References: Martin, L. L. Hsm 260 Week 9 Short Answer

... Week 9: Short Answer Question HSM/260 Why is it important for a human service professional to be familiar with financial management? Provide at least two examples that illustrate your point. A human service professional will deal with several aspects of the human service industry including the financial area. It is very important for a human service professional to have knowledge of financial management even if it is not his/her job role, title or responsibility. Having knowledge of the financial management allows a human service professional to make decisions or judgments which is in the best interest for the human service agency financially. It is vital for all staff to become familiar with the agency’s financial goals; therefore the service provided by the agency’s staff can be performed with everyone on the same accord financially. Everyone can understand the need for adjustments in areas of weakness; including layoffs, salary decrease and or any cost-cutting measures that is needed in order for the organization/agency to meet its financial obligations. It takes knowledge to understand how vital the financial aspect is to the organization and ensuring all staff has the knowledge of financial management and goals is very essential. Each individual at one point may need to step up and fill a position or make an executive decision; therefore if someone is terminated, becomes ill, or sudden death the agency can continue to run smoothly without taking any losses and the......

Final Project Acc 260

...Final Project: Solving Ethical Dilemmas in the Accounting Profession November 4, 2011 ACC/260 Dan’s Dilemmas In this assignment we will evaluate the ethical dilemmas of Daniel Potter. Dan is an accountant at Baker Greenleaf. He has been assigned a special audit in which his dilemmas occur. We will discuss many factors that led to the issues Dan is facing. We will describe the dilemmas and give a step-by-step account of how a solution can be reached. Background: While studying for the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) exam, Dan paid close attention to the professional guidelines and code of ethics for accountants. Being of a religious background, ethics was a particularly firm belief for him. He took pride in knowing about ethical situations that could make decisions difficult. Dan also understood that the professional guidelines were to be used as a tool to help in the decision-making process. He believed strongly that “every independent auditor was obligated to maintain professional integrity, if what he believed to be the best economic system in the world was to survive” (Brooks, 2007, p. 285). Baker was receiving a new assignment for a special audit, which was shared with another “Big Eight accounting firm” (Brooks, 2007, p. 286). If all went according to plan, Baker Greenleaf hoped to obtain the account exclusively. The company assigned the best in the company to prepare the audit. Dan was on of the team members chosen. A special one year......

...business activities with a specific funding level. A fixed document doesn't provide for changing budget allocations mid-year in response to changed conditions. For example, a city bus division might be crippled mid-year in the face of a rapid increase in gas prices, forcing a reduction in its operating schedule in order to stay within its budget. Program Budget Purpose: A program budget is often used for ongoing services offered by a company or a municipality. The primary difference between a program budget and most other budget formats is that the program budget is focused on the requirements to get the job done and not on making sure there are the financial resources to do so. The program budget is developed to determine if the project can be financed or if it should be discontinued. There are several disadvantages to a program budget that you should be aware of before using one. Advantages: A program budget presents budget investments in a format that enhances community understanding of the purpose and nature of the services you will provide. With a program budget you can bring budget investments in line with community objectives, anticipated or desired growth, priorities, and financial capabilities. The planning and management focus of a program budget establishes an informed basis upon which you can make decisions, thus helping you avoid costly mistakes. A program budget guides you in making sound annual budget decisions. Disadvantages: If the budget is......

...A New House – Decision University Of Phoenix XECO/212, Week 9, Final Project April 21, 2012 Catherine Higgins The decision to purchase a home is often the most important financial decision and individual or family will be faced with. The largest single financial purchase in an individual's lifetime is often the purchase of a house and one of the largest factors of personal wealth. All ten of the principles of economics are directly related to the decision to purchase a house on some level. These economic principles will have an impact on the purchasing decision and the long term financial aspects of home ownership so it is wise to incorporate these ten principles into the decision making process to ensure a sound financial decision is the outcome. When considering the purchase of a house, the ten principles of economics that need to be addressed can be broken down into three stages of the decision making process. The first step is to examine how the decision is made by incorporating the first four principles of economics which include, the trade off that comes with every financial decision, the real cost of any item or service is what is given up to get the item or service, rational people think at the margin, and people respond to incentives. Once it is clear how the decision is made, the next three principles of economics address how people interact with economics and include factors such as, trade is beneficial to everyone, markets......
