Program Planning and Grant Proposal

Working in human service fields certain individuals within the agency will be investing their time on program planning and grant proposals. Program planning is the first step in planning of a particular program in which needs funds. Program planning is a process with objectives, setting up goals and evaluation of all statistical data is measured. In this process of program planning; the team illustrates where a program or service might be needed in the community or city. It is a plan that someone or a group puts together so that the program function thoroughly. After careful ideas are secure in laid out on paper a grant proposal is the next step. The grant proposal must address the grantor’s goals, objectives and their main priorities. Through specific and clearly defined detailed information within the proposal would it be considered by the funders to be addressed. An application for a grant should include the following detailed information: 1. Table of contents 2. Abstract 3. Specific goals 4. Targeted area 5. Evaluation plan 6. Budget and budget justification 7. Community support

Grants use the same basic information as with the planning of a program so that it can be approved. This process is one of the similarities between grant proposals and program planning. One difference is that a grant is a plan for money and a program plan is ideas that someone puts down in writing to gather funds for a particular program. The grant proposal must be clearly defined as to what the funds are for and the program plan is the detailed use for the program they are to develop. At some point in human services there will be the need for program planning and grant proposals. These two functions are the essential parts of any organization to function…...

...Latasha Thomas February 8, 2013 HSM 270 Greg Moore Looking into a program and trying to locate its strengths and weaknesses before it gets out of hand is essential for a program to operate smoothly. Some may feel that there is nothing wrong with a program until they take a closer look into it. One small flaw can take a whole program down with it. It is vital to stay on top of all aspects of the program. Asking a few simple questions like, what is going wrong, what could be better, what needs to be fixed now, and what can wait, can help a program thrive. Finding a problem before it is a problem can help a program save funds, and the integrity of the program. Let’s say that a program has a computer program and only 4 to 5 of the people in the office use this program because they do not know how to use it. Is the problem with the computer program or the training required to operate the computer program? I believe the problem lies with the proper training of the staff. If the business did not perform an Evaluation they would have never been the wiser about this problem. This computer program was emplemented to help save the staff time, and document the client’s information. Evaluation includes whatever ways you can find to think about what you've done, what is going wrong, what could be better, what needs to be fixed now, and what can wait....

...Funding is the basis of every profit or non-profit organization. We are faced with growing economic stress and it can have a dramatic impact to how programs continue to operate. Grants are needed to begin funding of the program. Acquiring funding from the inception of the program will insure that the program has a good foundation for providing the necessary service to the community. Grants could be sought at other times during the programs life as the cost increases. Attending to a larger community, staff salaries, rent, and expenses would have a large affect on a set budget. Seeking other funding and grants would help offset the continued expenses. Grants are important to the success of all programs but some require more funding than others. Some human service programs are only a temporary service. Those short-term services usually target someone in certain short termed situation or need. This would require less funding. An ongoing or long-term service would defiantly need to acquire more funding to be able to provide a service throughout the years. An example of this would be Medicare that assists by providing medical care due to an ongoing illness or a disability. Right now, just over 1 billion people—about 15 percent of the people in the world—live in extreme poverty. On most days, they worry about whether their family will have enough food to eat. There is irony in this, since most of them live and work on farms. The problem is that their farms, which tend...

...Alternative Funding Ziada Meraz Program Planning and Grant Proposal Writing in Human Services HSM/270 Shelley Johnson Feb 15,2015 Alternative Funding Traditional funding through government agencies and corporations who donate to organizations and agencies is becoming harder and more competitive to attain; more organizations are relying on them when less money is available. The economic conditions are making it hard for more tradition funding methods to bring in enough revenue to match the amount of grants requested. More and more agencies are turning to non-traditional sources to generate the income they need to keep their programs operating. Even those sources are becoming more difficult to find, but with a little work and a lot of creative talent they can be found. The Santa Rosa Philharmonic Youth Symphony (SRPYS) is no different than other organizations that strive to provide a human service to a target population. In this case, the population is the youth of the Santa Rosa and surrounding areas that appreciate music and want to further their musical education. The local schools have lost funding for their music program and this organization wants to help pick up the deficit by offering a program to allow students to continue their education. The funding is all that is necessary since the agency already exists, has a facility, and has staffing which can work with students; the budget to run the additional program is the stalling point to the......

...Grants and the roles they play in the human services field. HSM/270 Grants play a very big and important role in the human services field. Grants are needed to provide human service funding for programs that can help people in their time of need. Without grants funding these programs would fail. Funding helps to provide the required funding to pay for some human service programs and the workers needed to run these programs. While donations and fees are crucial to human service nonprofits, many organizations rely heavily on revenues from government contracts and grants to expand their reach. Grants are more vital to some programs more than others in the human services field. There are grants for programs that help out a community that has been hit with a disaster, and the grants that help fund the needs of programs like that are very vital in order to build back communities and help those in need in those hard times. Other programs that grants are vital to include programs such as programs for abused children, homeless families, and programs that feed the hungry. There are several programs that need funding provided by grants in order to help people in time of need, but some are need grants to run more than others in order to provide the care that people may need. Hsm 270 Program Planning and Evaluation Paper

...Program Planning and Evaluation Paper HSM 270 Date Your Name As you read this paper you will find that it is going to be about a fictional program scenario that I have chosen to work with. The scenario that I have chosen is scenario three, the PEACE Domestic Violence Agency. Also I will be comparing program planning with program evaluation in human services organizations and how the components are related. Identified will be: specific examples of how program planning and evaluation interrelate in the scenario that was chosen. Lastly, we will be identifying technical and political aspects of program planning and evaluation that may be encountered in the scenario and how the aspects could affect the planning and evaluation process. After reviewing the material provided about program planning and program evaluation in human service organizations it seems as though they do compare to each other. According to the reading it states that “When planned carefully, these two set of activities can be integrated into an organized set of ongoing operations that promote and support each other” (Mika, 1996, p. 6). “Program planning and evaluation are both the process and the product of the political and economic environments” (Yuen, F., Terao, K., 2003). So from what can be understood they both are a process, but they do differ in how they process things in an organization. They way that both of the components are related is once one has his or......
