WBS and Gantt chart Review

Date: 02/28/2009

In order to ensure that the video game delivery project for smartgames.com is completed within 1 year or better, there are a few adjustments made to the WBS to meet this deadline. These adjustments will serve to help the project run more efficiently to in order to save time and allocate resources effectively. The following three tasks have been added:

1. Task Management – Expanded with more clarification 2. Risk Management – Additional 3. Database Management – Additional

The task management section has been expanded in order to specifically outline the all the tasks needed. Once we have a detailed outline, we can then begin to plan what tasks can be done in a parallel with others. There are some tasks that do not depend on the completion of other tasks and will save time. Planning the tasks ahead of time in this manner will allow the resources to plan their allocated time accordingly as opposed to trying to add pieces in the middle of the project.

Risk management is an important piece that will take time and planning in the beginning, but will be worth it as roadblocks come up through out the project. It is very important to identify possible risks and anticipate problems, but even more so to have a plan in place for when things like that occur. When a risk is identified, then a plan to handle the risk should also be in place as well as the resources to handle the situation. Although, some or most of the risks/problems identified may never occur, it is still a time saver compared to hitting a problem and scrambling for resources and solutions to resolve.

The final piece added was a database management piece. This will include the following: - Database design plan - Design tables - Data necessary - Database queries - Database forms

...outcomes for the public. We have dismantled our old regional model, and our structure has been fundamentally reshaped to support HQ and Central Services front line delivery at much reduced cost. Perhaps most significantly, our new structure makes a clear distinction between the different functions of the Agency – commissioning services; delivering those services directly such as through HM Prison Service and national operational services such as licence recall and population management; delivery through contracts such as with Probation Trusts; and providing support for service delivery through Finance, ICT and HR. These changes will achieve savings of more than £90 million or 37 per cent of our total central budget over the 2011-2015 Spending Review period, and a reduction in HQ and Central Services headcount of almost 700 staff. These changes give us the organisational arrangements we need for effective outcomebased commissioning of services in a providerneutral environment, which will encourage innovation and increasingly focus on what we want to achieve rather than how the work should be done. This guide sets out the detail of our new structures - what we do, and who does it. Line management and contract management for Prisons and Probation has been streamlined with clear accountabilities, responsibilities at the right level, and a focus on increased professional practitioner discretion at local level. Our vision is that there will be fewer victims, and our......

Pert, Gantt Charts and Work Breakdown Structure

...The PERT Chart Program Managers often utilize tools such as, the Program Evaluation and Review Technique or PERT charts. PERT charts help managers with planning the schedule of projects that involve sequential activities. A PERT chart identifies the amount of time that is required to complete the activities in a project, and the order of the steps that occurs throughout the project. Each activity is assigned an earliest and latest start time and end time; activities with no slack time are said to lie along the critical path, this is the path that must stay on time for the project to stay on schedule (Ingram, 2013). One of the strengths that the PERT charts have is their ability to calculate exactly how long a project will take. They provide managers with a range of time in which the project should be completed, based on the total of all the minimum and maximum time limits for all of the activities. This gives companies a number of advantages, such as the ability to tell their customers exactly when their orders will be filled, or exactly when they should order new supplies. One weakness a PERT chart has is that it does not take into account the possibility of unexpected occurrences. The expected completion time of all subsequent activities and the project as a whole can get off track when things go wrong, which can cause problems if the company has made plans that rely on the timely completion of the project. Another weakness of PERT chart is that the technique relies...

Chapter 3 Ghatt Chart Review Questions

...Review Questions - Chapter 3 Page 77 1. Contrast the following terms: a) Critical path scheduling, Gantt network diagramming, slack time Network diagramming is a critical path scheduling technique whose sequence of task activities directly affect the completion date of a project. A major strength for network diagramming is its ability to represent how completion dates can vary for activates or task and is more used that Gantt Charts. Gantt charts visually show slack time available within an earliest start and latest finish duration where a network diagram show this by data within activity rectangles. b) Project, project management, project manager A project is a planned undertaking of a series of related activities to reach an objective that has a beginning and an end. Project management is a controlled process of initiating, planning, executing and closing down a project and a project manager is responsible for initiating, planning, executing and closing down a project. c) Project initiation, project planning, project execution, project closedown Project initiation is the first phase of the project management process in which procedures are established and task are performed to assess the size, scope and completion of the project, project planning is the second phase that focuses on defining activities and the work needed to complete the project and the project closedown is the final phase that focuses on bringing the project to a close. d) Project workbook,......

Why is it critical to develop a time-phased baseline for a planning project and managing its performance? Time phased baseline is the distribution of activities, tasks, milestones, and resources over an appropriate time scale for the scheduled completion of a plan, program, or project. A time-phased baseline is critical for planning a project because it allows the project team to visually examine the project from a time sequence and cost (Larson and Gray 2011, 459). The phase-baseline begins with the breakdown of individual activities or tasks. This is condensed or group into a Work......

Cmgt 410 Week 2 Gantt Chart

...This document contains CMGT 410 Week 2 Gantt Chart General Questions - General General Questions CMGT/410 NEW UPDATED COURSE CMGT/410 Week 1 Individual Assignment Consider the following scenario: You have been hired by a large company with branch offices around the country to assist with rollout of a new companywide compliance system. While initially the focus was on implementation of the technology, it was found that success will require at least 10 hours of training for all managers across the country on both the use of the new platform as well as a host of new compliance policies being introduced. Of the options discussed, it was generally agreed than the training should be hands-on and conducted in person at a central location. This will obviously require getting organizational buy in as not all managers are going to be willing to commit to taking time out from their normal responsibilities just for some training. In addition, such large scale centralized training has not been done before by this company; therefore, the CEO wants feedback from participants to evaluate the effectiveness of any training sessions. As a result, your manager has given you the responsibility to develop an outline for a proposed project that would meet this upcoming need. Submit a 2- to 3-page memo that does the following: Names the project Briefly describes the project Identifies potential stakeholders directly or indirectly involved Specifies the overall...

Chart Review

...Purpose. There are many reasons to conduct chart reviews such a required by a regulatory agency, justification of billing, and research. Another frequently used purpose of a chart review is to assist in measuring quality of care. This measurement is then used to help determine if a change in process is needed to improvement patient outcomes. There are several models used in process improvement including Juran’s Universal Sequence for Quality Improvement, the Seven-step problem-solving model, FOCUS-PDCA and Six-Sigma DMAIC (Langley, Moen, Nolan, Nolan, Norman & Provost, 2009). Chart reviews can be an integral step in all of these models in gleaning data to measure the depth of the problem or if it even exists. This paper will compare the advantages and disadvantages of reviewing charts, describe the basic considerations in performing chart reviews, and describe issues that can threaten the validity of data. Lastly, this paper will look closer at the Six-Sigma DMAIC process as this is the methodology used to guide process improvement in the facility for which this information is being obtained. Background. In 1966, Donabedian stated that the quality of health care is measured by structure, process, and outcome observation. Structure measurement includes resource quality, availability and accessibility (Donabedian, 1966). Process measurement looks at the health care services that clinicians and providers deliver (Donabedian, 1966). Outcome measurement is the end......

The Gantt Chart

...the Adjourning covers the lessons learned upon the completion of the teams goal. I believe that my team never made it out of the storming stages, and I believe the onset of this was partially to bad timing and scheduling. The Gantt Chart is a visual representation of a projects scheduling as well as tasks. The idea of the Gantt Chart was created by Henry Gantt in the earl parts of the prior century, this was created to schedule projects and provide maximum efficiency for project management. One of the many resends Gantt Charts are still used today is because they are visuals and provide a structured visual aid/presentation for the visual learning, moreover, the Gantt provides organization, this is because a good visual representation would lead to better organization. In theory a Gantt Chart would be a great organizational tool for a team in the forming and storming stages of the team building process. My team structured the our Gantt Chart in the shape of a pyramid, descending from most important being the standing structure to the least important being the cosmetics. Our Gantt Chart was very specific in that everyone had their own specific task coming build day, however, things took a turn in a direction that did not favor the the charts structured tasks. The Transferable Integrated Design Engineering Education (TIDEE), is a structured design process......
