...they fall as well. We race towards the objective bobbing and weaving through the crossfire bullets whizzing overhead, debris clouding our vision. Closer, closer…CLOSEERRR, grenades are tossed at feet, “GRENADE GET DOWN, GET DOWN!” and then…Blackness. “Huh? What the…” I look up at my mom standing there power plug in hand and giving me “that look”. I drop the controller flip off the TV and hit the books. I’m sure I’m not far off assuming this scenario or something similar has happened to many other people this day an age. It is not uncommon to find one if not more gaming consoles or computers within a household this day and age; they have become apart of our modern society and look as though they are here to stay for the long term. But what effects does the up and coming gamming culture have on our society? After taking a closer look at the topic it could be argued that those who are apart of the B. Allen 2 gaming culture are susceptible to possible violent behavior, but are also inclined towards academic success, and health benefits. “Bring on the guts, bring on gore, bring on the mayhem!” Unfortunately video games that contain content such as this are seen as possible scapegoats for exemplifying violent behavior in teens and adults in our society. For example when it was found that Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold were fervent players of the games Doom and Wolfenstein3D (CNN 4/22/99) many people blamed the games for the massacre to an extent. Some people even......

...or DVD. Convenient? Sure it is. You can pay for a program and receive it without ever having to get up from your chair; however the drawbacks are what concern me, and they are notable. As a longtime avid PC user, I have noticed a shift in the winds over the years in terms of the way programs find their way into the hands of the general public. It used to be that you go to the store, find the program you want, buy it, take it home and install it from the disk. If the program screwed up all you would have to do is reinstall it. You actually had a physical disc you could count on and call your own. If you took care of it, it would take care of you. No longer. Even if you buy a disc from the store these days, there is always some sort of download involved in its installation. Many times, this requires the installation of additional programs known as “software managers” so the program can function correctly. As a result, you don’t actually “own” anything you buy that installs using this system and your right to use it can be revoked on someone else’s whim. Today, this means that even your disc that you bought at Best Buy has become no more useful than a shiny, fun-sized Frisbee as you actually use the cd-key or authorization code to enable download and use. Many of the PC games these days employ a middleman of sorts named “Steam,” a platform that is given sole distribution rights of most major titles. So many major titles employ its use, in fact, that this platform can......

...A lot of people don’t think that gaming is cheating on your significant other, but any time your partner spends time and energy on something in a way that detracts from the relationship, that's an affair. The escapism can easily take the form of a video game; that’s kind of the whole point. The alternate worlds and experiences lend themselves to thrill-seeking behavior. The problem is that people are struggling to connect with escapism, which can have benefits but the downfall is it leads to people feeling lonely and disconnected with people. He is neglecting his wife, because she will try to make conversation with him, and he will be busy having intimate conversations with his avatar wife or having sex with her. In my opinion he is putting too much time in his avatar relationship. I will be thinking he is having intimate conversations with an avatar, which is controlled by another woman. So he is basically having intimate conversations with another woman, which that leads to flirting and cheating. Gaming can be an affair, because it takes the place of love. So, in my opinion, Rick is cheating on Sue. If my boyfriend had a virtual life and he married avatar and was doing intimate things with her, I would have a problem with that. If it was a computer avatar, I would think that is weird, but if it was an avatar controlled by another woman that would really upset me. I do not play video games, so I really don’t understand the whole virtual life aspect, but to marry an avatar...

...This could potentially increase the likelihood of these children developing addictions to video games. A recent study that was conducted in Singapore consisted of two thousand two hundred male students from six different primary schools. These students were ranging from ages of six to twelve. The results from this survey indicate that fifteen percent of the students tested, have played video games in the past, another twenty of the students that were surveyed claim to playing about twenty to twenty two hours of video games a week. (Andrea, Source card #2). A similar report and study that was conducted by, Dr. Richard Gallagher, director of the parenting institute at the University of New York, shows that thirty eight billion in America have gaming consoles, and in 2001 alone 9.1 billion dollars were spent on video games by consumers in the United States. This question is commonly asked, “Well what causes video game addiction?” Some of the reasons as to why children develop addictions to video games are, the individual that is addicted to video games, is socially awkward, they live in a stressful environment, or suffer from bad grades. All this will eventually lead to this child wanting to gain confidence, eventually causing them to lose themselves in the video game, therefore causing addiction. Today’s elaborate video games require the players to pay constant attention to the game, and to be a part of the game’s script, this has numerous negative effects on children. Those......

The Future of Gaming

...The Future of Gaming Devry University Eng 135 Today computers are an integral part of everyday life in America. There's hardly anywhere you can go without seeing a computer in use. It has simplified the hard task of everyday life and left more free time. Many people spend that free time playing video games. Video games are a good way of stress relief, a way to get away from the realities of everyday life and into a virtual world. Some will say that video games have lead to kids being more obese because they don't get outside and play. They say that video games contribute to violence, because acts in games are reenacted by individuals. Video games have also lead to addiction like those from drugs and alcohol. Games have done more to benefit society, than harm it. Video game simulations are used in many fields from the military, education, medical, and the science field. What was once just a break from tedious task on the job has now turned into a billion-dollar industry that doesn't have any signs of slowing down. Some of the negatives of gaming are now being overshadowed by the overwhelming positives. With introduction of the Nintendo Wii we now have interactive video game system that requires users to interact with the game. Gamers no longer sit back and play games but now they are required to interact with them. With games becoming a more integral part of everyday life, the real potential and benefits are now becoming realized. Games are being put...

...PC game "Personal computer game" redirects here. For video games in general, see video game. For other uses, "Computer Games" redirects here. For the album by George Clinton, see Computer Games (album). PC games, also known as computer games, are video games played on a general-purpose personal computer rather than a dedicated video game console or arcade machine. Their defining characteristics include a lack of any centralized controlling authority and greater capacity in input, processing, and output. PC games reached widespread popularity following the video game crash of 1983, particularly in Europe, leading to the era of the "bedroom coder". From the mid-90s onward they lost mass-market traction to console games before enjoying a resurgence in the mid-2000s through digital distribution. The uncoordinated nature of the PC game market and its lack of physical media make precisely assessing its size difficult. Pc Gaming vs. Console

...In 1972, the first gaming console named “Odyssey” was released by Magnavox. For the next 20 years, the battle between Pc and console gaming would be dominated by the console. Since then, the gaming universe has evolved in ways leaving the modern consumer confused on which platform is right for them. With the options available for gaming today, there are many factors to take under consideration. The cost of today’s console is $500; whereas, a decent gaming Pc can cost anywhere from $1,000 - $1,500. The cost of games are similar on both platforms, which is approximately $60. Pc games tend to go on sale more frequently than console games. Ease of use should also be considered. Consoles are for whom the gaming community calls “Lazy-Boy Gamer’s”; meaning, turn on the console, relax in a lazy-boy recliner and play games. This is made possible due to the use of a controller. Pc gaming uses a mouse and keyboard to play games, so the user will be sitting at a desk in an upright position which can be uncomfortable over long periods of time. When it comes to graphics, Pc’s have no competition. With more processing power with a Pc, most games run at 60-120FPS (frames per second) while consoles today only run at approximately 30FPS. Frames per second refers to how many frames is rendered onto a screen per second, the higher amount the better. With the graphics capabilities comes a price. The maintenance that is involved with sustaining performance can be challenging for some. Software......

...CIS 10 | PC Gaming | | Ryan Mills 4-24-2014 | PCs are a good choice for gaming for a multitude of reasons, including but not limited to price, reparability, upgradability, value, versatility, performance, game selection, game prices, and more. Computers are an ever-evolving platform. It grows in power, capability, and value almost every single year. The cause of this improvement is partially because it is free of control from any single entity. Rather than being regulated by a single company, control and improvement influence over the PC belongs to everyone equally. Everybody has the freedom to create and/or sell software and hardware for it. It's being constantly improved by competing companies and individuals all over the hardware spectrum, and all of them are trying to offer you (and game developers) the best experience possible. A common misconception is that pc gaming is more expensive than consoles. It is not. Especially if you only plan to target console performance. There are already graphics cards available on the market for $150 that surpass the PS4 and XBox One in terms of frame rate, resolution, detail, value, and power draw. A lot of people incorrectly believe that you have to spend upwards of $750-$1000 to get a PC fully capable of handling games. These inaccuracies can be attributed partially to the highly vocal and misinformed masses, and to the availability and hype of the expensive PC hardware we see advertised a lot. You see it more because......

...In light of the strategic tactics it would be fair to comment that Sony has the upper hand at the moment. However this does not by any means suggest that there is no niche in the market for rivals. By further analysing the computing industry it is evident that consoles have the edge over PC's in the video gaming industry. The Internet is rapidly rising in use, while consoles will continue to dominate, the advent of Internet gaming could conceivably raise. Despite this dominance in the computing industry the average console price drops by around 30% in each year after it's launch. Manufacturers are aware that they only have a product life cycle of no more than two years. The market size generally grows in the second year of the product cycle despite the price cuts this is due to more software availability and discounted prices. It is apparent that the company's product life span is very much dependent on its software. The games software market is the fastest growing sub-sector, fuelled by the heavy market competition between the market leaders Sony and Nintendo. In 1999 games made for the Sony PlayStation accounted for three quarters of its income. It is known for a game to generate more income than a Hollywood film; as a consequence, well known film Stars and pop Stars help create games by providing scripts or soundtracks written for the game. The strategies which Sony and Nintendo adopt are highly influenced by the market pattern, hence the similarities in their strategies...

...Online Gaming Console Gaming Computer Science Essay A console game is a form of interactive multimedia used for entertainment. The game consists of manipulable images and sounds generated by a video game console and displayed on a television or similar audio-video system. The game is controlled and manipulated using a handheld device controller connected to the console. The controller generally contains a number of buttons and multi-directional controls like the joysticks. Each button is assigned a purpose for interacting with and controlling the images on the screen. Handheld game consoles are consoles incorporated with display, speakers, console and controls. Multimedia gaming is done using a disc or cassette for every game, which can be inserted into the game console. Recent advances have allowed games and game demos to be downloaded directly to the console via the Internet. A video game is an electronic game that involves interaction with a user interface to generate visual feedback on the hand held video device. The electronic systems used to play video games are known as platforms; examples of these are personal computers and video game consoles. These platforms range from small handheld devices to large mainframe computers. The input device used to manipulate video games is called a game controller, and varies across platforms. Upgrading a Pc

...Upgrading a PC Rodolfo Garcia Jr. EET250 Computer Configuration I ECPI University Abstract This paper covers the topics of upgrading a PC with new components such as RAM, Wireless Devices, larger Hard Drive, and a new Optical drive. This paper will discuss the prices and benefits of performing these upgrades. Keywords: Motherboard, CPU, RAM, PCI, SATA, technician, wireless keyboard, wireless mouse, USB, Hard Drive, Optical Drive, DVD, Blu-Ray, HDMI, 1080p video. Upgrading a PC As technology changes, so does the needs of the average PC user. When technology outpaces the capabilities of your PC, many people choose to upgrade their device instead of purchasing a completely new system which sometimes happens after a couple of months. There are several ways to upgrade a PC to keep it up to date with the emerging technology. When the motherboard and CPU are relatively newer, they are often capable of keeping up with the newest demands placed on them, however other components could benefit from an upgrade to improve performance and stability. Some of the most common upgrades include new or additional RAM, wireless devices such as a keyboard and mouse, larger and/or faster hard drive, and a new optical drive that is capable of handling the demands of new video and storage capabilities. Upgrading RAM is probably the single best option for improving speed and performance of a system. When it comes to upgrading RAM there are a few things to keep in mind such as the......

...Subject: Gaming to meet sales goals The purpose of this memo is to inform all Colombian Personal Bankers that while conducting our internal audit, we have found that some personal bankers are practicing gaming at the time of opening the checking accounts, in order for them to meet the sales goals. The requirement to have a XYZ checking account is to maintain five hundred dollars daily in the account and the requirement to have and ABC checking account is to maintain one thousand dollars. The first three months for each of those accounts, the customer is not required to have that money in the account, but after that period of time, the customer needs to meet the requirements. Opening a XYZ checking account gives 30 dollars profit to the personal banker sales goal, while opening an ABC checking account gives 50 dollars profit, resulting more attractive to open an ABC checking account at the time of meeting the monthly quota for the commission. Personal bankers are not disclosing the correct information to the customers at the time of the account opening, just offering an ABC checking account to them so the banker can get the commission, and after the three month trial period, the personal banker downgrades the customer account to the XYZ checking account. Due to the economic recession, customers are more likely to open the XYZ checking account which is the one that requires less daily amount, but this account is not attractive from the personal banker sales view. Gaming is......
