The materials for this course were organized and edited by Richard Heckathorn using materials from a program called Operation Physics and includes materials developed by him.

The original OPERATION PHYSICS activity sequence to improve physics teaching and learning in upper elementary and middle schools was funded by the National Science Foundation.

An understanding of force and motion is fundamental to the study of almost all other physics-related topics. Yet it is a topic often overlooked or only cursorily introduced in elementary and middle school science, even though it is a topic typically identified for inclusion in the curriculum for these grades. A primary reason for this is that many teachers do not feel comfortable about their own understanding of the topic. Consequently, this may be the most needed of all of the OPERATION PHYSICS workshops.

This workshop leader’s notebook is divided into two parts:


Part One begins by introducing participants to the concepts of space and time. These concepts are then used in describing simple types of motion. These motions are then classified as accelerated and not accelerated (constant velocity). Emphasis is placed on distinguishing between speed and velocity, between average and instantaneous values and on accelerated motion. This section should not be skipped, for it develops ideas necessary to the understanding of other ideas…...

People thought it right to be themselves - the great man can shape his own destiny. Humans are the center of the universe and the "measure of all things." Humans could do well at many things: "The Renaissance Man." Humans began to have a questioning attitude and challenged tradition and authority. They believed life on earth was more important than the afterlife. There was greater emphasis on this life and less on the afterlife and on God - the world is to be enjoyed. Histories of the World

...a cross-cultural level, libraries, museums and archives work together to a growing extend, to make their digital collections and objects available on the web for a large audience, very often through one central access point, a so called portal or digital library. IFLA recognizes the current shift of many libraries from analogue to digital, and increasingly includes digital libraries in its strategic agenda. This focus will be achieved not only by looking at the digitisation process as such, but also at strategies for providing long term access to digital content. At the IFLA World Library and Information Congress in Milan in 2009, the IFLA Professional Committee together with the Italian government organized a one-day conference on digital libraries which focused on the user perspective and the way in which cultural heritage institutions and publishers respond to the digital shift in the library world. ...Veronica Asidi Modern World History French Troops in Mali (January 11, 2013) The event I choose was about the French troops arriving in Mali to stem rebel advance. This took place in Mali, in West Africa. French troops have arrived in Mali to help within the country, where Islamist groups and most terrorists like the Al-Qaida are continuing to clash with the army for control of the desert in the north. The French President, François Hollande, announced this event on January 11th, saying French armed forces had come to the aid of Mali troops on the ground. “France was ‘ready to stop the terrorists' advance if it continues,” Hollande said, in a speech he made earlier to the country's diplomatic corps. “I have decided that France will respond, alongside our African partners, to the request from the Malian authorities. We will do it strictly within the framework of the United Nations Security Council resolution. The rebels have even tried to deal a fatal blow to the very existence of Mali. World History write the History of the World? The history of the world is a very broad and extremely extensive topic to cover. There are literally endless amounts of information that one could write about for a world history coarse or textbook. Where one starts amidst the vast sea of our worlds history is a large part of where the coarse or text will go. For a coarse such as this one, based on modern world history with the emphasis on war and environmental and technical change we cannot start too far back on a timeline because otherwise we will never reach the modern history. As a starting point the middle ages works well because it gives us a slight background of the ancient worlds but is a very transitional time. Spending a short amount of time in the Middle Ages focusing mainly on the crusades and the kings of England and their reigns to get the reader or student interested. After discussing the middle ages, we would move on the exploration and colonization of the rest of the world. This is a major point and a larger amount of time should be placed here because first off there is much to cover with the Columbus discovery of north America followed by the sea route to India. Also because these are extremely important times because they are basically the start of the western world we know today. The speech made by the president before Congress in 1947 gave birth to the doctrine. The reason President Truman made the speech was because Britain had announced that they will no longer support the Greek government economically and military wise. Through the doctrine, the government of United States of America (USA) promised to provide political, army and economic aid to all democratic countries under threat from authoritarian powers. In Elie Wiesel’s novel, Night, he relives his experiences in which he’s compiled during the Holocaust that the German Nazis were held accountable for. On May 1944, towards the end of the Second World War, he at the age of fifteen, his family, and other Jews are forced by the Nazis to detach from their homes to attend their first concentration camp called Auschwitz. It was situated in Poland and his mother and youngest sister will die there while he and his father carry on their lives with the only priority of survival in their minds; little do they know, a dark future awaits them. It is in camp Buchenwald, located in Germany, to where Elie and his father transfer in the progressing years, that Nazi brutality becomes more conspicuous. This leaves him the last motive to remain alive, his father. As Elie continues to inhabit the surreal and agonizing environment with tortuous occurrences at every step, he finds it difficult to survive as an adolescent which leads to his quick transition into adulthood; thus leaving his state of innocence.
