Technology Social Change vs. The People
Slowly but surely, technology has made its growth very present to the world. Especially the fact that it has begun to filter out easier and quicker ways to complete tasks, spread information, and make it easier to communicate with others! Have you ever stop to think, the ways technology has influenced your life? Technology allows people to be 10x steps ahead with the constant need for knowledge. Have we thought about how many steps the human race has fallen behind mentally because of this advancement? Technology and social media has ultimately altered our brains, making it easier to get distracted, which affects our relationships with others, communications and interpersonal skills, alongside worsening our multi-tasking ability. There is still time to fix this and save the younger generation and ourselves. Getting rid of technology is not the answer, but knowing our limits and remaining focus on a single task can allow us to stay a bit more humanized.
Many of us have heard of social networking sites such as, Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram. These sites are great means of expressing yourself or to portray a type of image, but there is point where people online cross the line. Constantly putting personal business out there for others to know can create hostile environment and even an unsafe one. People create an illusion, where constantly checking our social networks for notifications that are not there, and people statuses in which I have already scrolled by twice already. In the article Is Facebook Making Us Lonely, Stephen Marche says, “What’s truly staggering about Facebook usage is not it’s volume – 750 million photographs uploaded over a single weekend - but the constancy of the performance it demands. More than half it’s users – and one of every thirteen people on Earth is a Facebook user – log on everyday. Among…...

When a child automatically cleans up the room after playing, her parents are likely to say: “You are very good”. Those utterances are called compliments which are used to show that someone likes someone else’s appearance, belongings, or work etc. Due to different cultural background and social values, English and Vietnamese native speakers have different norms of complimenting as well as responding to compliments. In this essay, I will discuss the notion of compliment made in American English and Vietnamese in terms of topics, formulas, and responses. First thing first, let have a look at the definition. Purpose and Significance Thanks to the globalization, the demand for the bilingual workers is on the rise. As English majors, we believe that what we can do to be more competitive in this increasingly globalized world is to have a solid command of this language. The certificates such as TEM-8(Test for English Majors Band Eight) is a must but what really matters is what ability the students really have possessed and could be employed at ease. Upon reflecting on the TEM-4 (Test for English Majors Band Four) /TEM-8 scores the seniors have acquired, we clearly learn that there is still quite a room for improvement, especially when it comes to writing. Some students still find it tough to put pen into the paper and work out a satisfactory essay; some are hard-pressed to express themselves smoothly in......

Etymological Analysis of Modern English Vocabulary

...1 ETYMOLOGICAL ANALYSIS OF MODERN ENGLISH VOCABULARY The modern English vocabulary falls into two main sets: native words and borrowings. Native words belong to the original English word-stock and are known from the earliest Old English manuscripts. It is customary to subdivide native words into those of the Indo-European stock and those of the common Germanic origin. The former have cognates in the vocabularies of all or most Indo-European languages, whereas the latter have cognates only in Germanic languages, but not in Romance, Slavonic or other languages of the Indo-European family. Several linguists are inclined to the opinion that there exist specifically English words which have no cognates in other languages and constitute the English proper element of the vocabulary. The degree of assimilation depends upon the length of period during which the word has been used in the receiving language, upon its importance for communication purpose and its frequency. Oral borrowings due to personal contacts are assimilated more completely and more rapidly than literary borrowings, i.e. borrowings through written speech. Loan words according to the degree of assimilation fall into three groups: a) completely assimilated loan words, b) partially assimilated loan words, c) unassimilated loan words or barbarisms. The group of partially assimilated words may be subdivided depending on the aspect that remains unaltered, i.e. according to whether the word retains features of spelling,......

English 200 Uhwo Gta V Analysis

...James Holt 3/10/15 English 200 Short Paper 4 GTA V: Parental Discretion Is Advised For millions of gamers across the world, few dates hold as much significance as September 17th, 2013. On that day, thousands of eager Grand Theft Auto fans lined up outside of Gamestops everywhere, anxious to get their hands on Rockstar Game's highly anticipated addition to the saga: Grand Theft Auto V. Those fans were not disappointed. It is definitely  hailed as one of the best games ever released for the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360, and is probably responsible for more than one late analysis paper. This is due to its nearly flawless mechanics, gripping storylines, gorgeous graphics, and enormous open world. Until a couple months ago, I've never played any game in the Grand Theft Auto series compared to this one. This is mainly because Grand Theft Auto IV was released when I was eleven years old, and my parents thought that I was just a bit too young to be exposed to carjacking and outrageous hooker-killing. However, for the sake of research and comparison, remembering the gameplay of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, which came out right before GTA IV, gave me a better understanding of what qualities may have been upgraded. Now, I don't know what GTA IV's mechanics and physics are like, because I’ve never played it before and only seen video clips of it,  but San Andreas's are very buggy and wooden-looking. Murdered gangsters flop around like rag dolls and the overall setting looks a......

Below I will advise of the preparation techniques and ingredients needed to make this mouth watering dish. This recipe will serve approximately 8 people. The approximate active preparation time is 20 minutes and the approximate inactive preparation time is about 5 hours 30 minutes, plus marinating time. I've also included the nutritional value per serving in this paragraph as well. Note that all the ingredients I use are from GOYA, with the exception of the salt and pernil, which is best gotten from your local butcher.
