U.S. Citizen and Immigration Services. "How Do I Help My Relative Become a U.S.
Permanent Resident." U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services Department.
U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Aug. 2008. Web. October 2011. http://www.uscis.gov/USCIS/Resources/A1en.pdf The United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) published a customer guide for U.S. citizen’s that are trying to help their relative(s) become a lawful permanent resident of the United States. Part A1 of the I Am a U.S. Citizen guide is three pages long and provides directions and assistance for those attempting to help their relatives obtain a “green card.” The guide is broken into sections titled with a question and each section gives an answer to the question and in most cases gives examples as well.
The questions, serving as sections in the guide, involve the steps and potentially special circumstances that are involved in helping a relative achieve U.S. residency. The guide is read clearly and makes an attempt to answer any possible questions by using the most frequently asked ones. The answers provide directions on what to do and give an example for clarity. In some cases there are more than one example for multiple circumstances. The purpose of the guide is not only to educate, but also to assist.
The audience is mainly intended for those who are interested in helping a relative(s) of theirs to acquire U.S. residency. Other potential audience members may include the immigrant themselves, or employers that may be trying to get workers over from another country. Those interested often times will be in different situations or circumstances. By using examples that involve these potentially different circumstances, the guide is able to reach out to a wider audience. The speaker of the guide is the…...

Phil 1010

...24 April 2010 Philosophy 1010 Assignment 3 Descartes theory of doubt rest on the Latin phrase Cogito Ergo Sum. Translated into English the phrase means “I think, therefore I am”. This theory hinges on what is real and what is false; and mimics the branch of philosophy called Metaphysics. Metaphysics questions the reality of environment as does the method of doubt. Descartes skepticism (method of doubt) is termed methodological, because it presents a process which is used to deduce information to arrive at appropriate conclusions which determines or distinguishes reality from fantasy or a state of confusion. Descartes believed that some outcomes were very clear. He provided an analogy utilizing numbers. With numbers there is a pure outcome once the formula is applied or understood correctly. However, with environment or physical movement it becomes difficult to predict the end result. Therefore, to gain a better understanding of reality, Descartes formulates the theory of doubt and creates a check list of three requirements which must be indubitable fulfilled when applied to the method of doubt. The three requirements are 1) impossibility to doubt – meaning something is absolute 2) independent certainty – a theory which cannot be supported by another and 3) an item which exists so that data can be deduced to confirm existence. “Thinking includes doubting, understanding, denying, willing, refusing, and feeling” all key components in analytic phases of questioning......

Etymological Analysis of Modern English Vocabulary

...1 ETYMOLOGICAL ANALYSIS OF MODERN ENGLISH VOCABULARY The modern English vocabulary falls into two main sets: native words and borrowings. Native words belong to the original English word-stock and are known from the earliest Old English manuscripts. It is customary to subdivide native words into those of the Indo-European stock and those of the common Germanic origin. The former have cognates in the vocabularies of all or most Indo-European languages, whereas the latter have cognates only in Germanic languages, but not in Romance, Slavonic or other languages of the Indo-European family. Several linguists are inclined to the opinion that there exist specifically English words which have no cognates in other languages and constitute the English proper element of the vocabulary. The degree of assimilation depends upon the length of period during which the word has been used in the receiving language, upon its importance for communication purpose and its frequency. Oral borrowings due to personal contacts are assimilated more completely and more rapidly than literary borrowings, i.e. borrowings through written speech. Loan words according to the degree of assimilation fall into three groups: a) completely assimilated loan words, b) partially assimilated loan words, c) unassimilated loan words or barbarisms. The group of partially assimilated words may be subdivided depending on the aspect that remains unaltered, i.e. according to whether the word retains features of spelling,......

Comm 1010

...Miranda Chesson COMM 1010 Rhetorical Analysis The image that I have chosen for my rhetorical analysis is an advertisement for the company Wonderbra. In this advertisement it shows an attractive woman, in her mid to late thirties, with only a black bra on, breasts up and pushed out, and her hair tasseled around. In the middle of the advertisement it has a line of text saying “I can’t cook. Who cares?” This advertisement presents plenty of issues, which will be discussed throughout this analysis. The rhetor of this advertisement is the company Wonderbra. The purpose, or goal that the Wonderbra company had was to make it seem to the audience that it is okay to be basically a trophy wife and not do anything around the house if you look like this, and if you have this bra that this company makes then you will look like this and not have to worry about a thing. The intended audience for this advertisement is women that are mid to late thirties, like the woman in the picture, or also it could be guided towards men. If men saw this advertisement they would think that they need a wife or woman that looks like that and they will be more willing to buy them this wonderful bra as long as they will look like this when they wear it. The men could also think that if they had this woman, that they would basically be a bimbo and not even know how to cook, but it doesn’t matter because they look they way they do. The extended audience is the audience that is affected by the discourse,......

English 265 Website Analysis

...Subject: Website Analysis of Apple and Samsung Abstract This memo will be discussing the utilization of .com websites of two of the world’s largest technology and electronic brands, Apple and Samsung. In this memo, we will explain how each company uses their websites to gear towards their specific brand and consumers. Each company has its own way of separating itself from competitors in the market, with Apple and Samsung, they tend to be on polar ends of the marketing and consumer snagging spectrum. While one company focuses in on the simplicity of heavy technology, the other weighs in on the variety of technology. Both companies use their websites to efficiently capture different audiences, and effectively together rack enough consumers to control 46.6% of the world market share in technology. The two companies both utilize their websites to be the driving force of their brand. Website Layout Apples website is a direct insight into the sophisticated, simplistic, and professional theme that Apple has tried to portray for decades now. With its sleek and mono-font, monochromatic design, the website is directly setup to create brand awareness. Immediately, an IProduct user or anyone familiar with Apples products recognizes that the layout and color scheme of the website, is the exact same layout and color scheme in the platforms they use for the IPad, ITouch, Mac, and IPhone. Their easy-to-use website also mimics the “for all ages” concept of their products. Samsung’s......

English 200 Uhwo Gta V Analysis

...James Holt 3/10/15 English 200 Short Paper 4 GTA V: Parental Discretion Is Advised For millions of gamers across the world, few dates hold as much significance as September 17th, 2013. On that day, thousands of eager Grand Theft Auto fans lined up outside of Gamestops everywhere, anxious to get their hands on Rockstar Game's highly anticipated addition to the saga: Grand Theft Auto V. Those fans were not disappointed. It is definitely  hailed as one of the best games ever released for the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360, and is probably responsible for more than one late analysis paper. This is due to its nearly flawless mechanics, gripping storylines, gorgeous graphics, and enormous open world. Until a couple months ago, I've never played any game in the Grand Theft Auto series compared to this one. This is mainly because Grand Theft Auto IV was released when I was eleven years old, and my parents thought that I was just a bit too young to be exposed to carjacking and outrageous hooker-killing. However, for the sake of research and comparison, remembering the gameplay of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, which came out right before GTA IV, gave me a better understanding of what qualities may have been upgraded. Now, I don't know what GTA IV's mechanics and physics are like, because I’ve never played it before and only seen video clips of it,  but San Andreas's are very buggy and wooden-looking. Murdered gangsters flop around like rag dolls and the overall setting looks a......

Essay - English 1010

...English 1010 29 October 2011 Is Food Fit to Eat? With all the recent news about tainted food and related deaths, are people defying death with every meal they eat? Considering only the United States (US) population of over 312 million people eating three meals a day, almost one billion meals are eaten in this country every day. Each person who consumes food is a potential victim of food poisoning. In the US, there are two agencies that oversee the safety of food production and processing: the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) gets involved in food safety when a contamination outbreak occurs. According to the CDC, there are an estimated 76 million cases of food poisoning annually. Within those reported cases, 5,000 cases result in the victim’s death and 325,000 people require hospitalization. Compared to the hundreds of millions of meals consumed in the US each year, reported deaths from food poisoning are relatively low, especially considering that deaths caused by automobile accidents in the US have averaged over 35,000 annually for the past ten years. The government regulatory agencies cannot prevent or control every source of food contamination prior to consumption, even with a larger budget. According to Sherri McGarry, a senior advisor in the FDA’s Office of Foods, “The food chain is very complex. There are many steps, and the more steps there are...
