Leading a traditional church through change can be a very arduous task for any progressive minded leader who desires to promote growth within his context. Innovation within a traditional context tends to attract opposition from many angles. Resistance may come from the executive board of the church, members who feel they have some control, or from those who do not recognize the varying needs within the local congregation. However, change is an essential and never-ending need in the church because of the constant change in culture and church membership.1 This research paper will address the problem and offer solutions in creating a culture for change within the traditional church.
Stagnation within the Traditional Church
In a newspaper article published by the Telegram & Gazette, the author claims, “Once a fulcrum of rural West Sutton, the 262-year-old First Baptist, the fourth-oldest Baptist church in

Ciulla and Forsyth (as cited in Olivier, 2012, p. 70) suggests that “[t]he good leader, . . . is challenged to be both technically good, i.e. effective at getting the job-at-hand-done and morally good, i.e. responsible for what he or she has done.” Leadership and corporate culture dictate the acceptable ethical standards of an organisation to their followers. The changes that Home Depot and Hewlett Packard has gone through when they change the Chief Executive Officers and how it impacted the companies positively and negatively. Hewlett Packard announced in 2011 that they were replacing the then CEO Leo Apotheker with former EBay CEO Meg Whitman. With the increase in corporate failures due to frauds committed by employees, companies are faced with one major concern, financial stability. Codes of ethics and internal controls have been imposed to foster growth in companies in a bid to achieve this great desire. The effectiveness of these rules and controls are nonetheless in question. Gebler article “Creating an Ethical Culture: values-based ethics programs can help employees’ judge right from wrong” is critiquing the way organizations ethics programs are just like any other conformity set of laws. Although he doesn’t suggest how organization culture is created, he remedies that, for organizations to shun unethical conducts, they must focus more on building the right culture than building an observance infrastructure for employees to adhere. He further argues that an organization culture is not supposed to be created by the leaders and posed down on employees. The article is also quite clear-cut that organizations must understand what causes misconduct and ways of measuring success of ethics.
