Crazy Little Thing Called Love
The first 15 minutes of the movie was the introduction of the characters and the situation the characters were in. The story is centered on an average, plain-looking and dark-skinned girl named Nam who is secretly in love with an older Grade 10 guy named Shone . Shone, a new student, a rumored troublemaker and a photography enthusiast, easily becomes a popular student in school because of his good looks and soccer-playing skills. The plot was very simple but its simplicity caught my attention. Dark skinned, with glasses and braces = the complete cliché package of an ugly girl falls in love with unbelievably handsome and charming upperclassman. Of course he has to be perfect in every way possible, all sensitive and artistic (but athletic and hot at the same time) while she is the clumsy nerd in the shadows. The movie opens up with Nam's quirky group of friends and a teacher who is too straightforward for her own good. A few juvenile scenes of picking out crushes, passing notes during class and stolen glimpses and suddenly, the story becomes all too familiar. All those enchantment-believing, book-reading and daydreaming moments could might as well be anybody else's story and it was that gravitation to something so recognizable to all, I think, that made this movie so popular and endearing to people who have a heart and once used it for something no matter how one-sided and futile the experience was. But of course the lead character must shed off her veil of ugliness and become this pretty swan in a matter of a few months. Any story set on screen could definitely not end with the Prince Charming falling in love with the still visually despicable commoner! The transformation was so dramatic I had to Google if two different actresses played her part. I found it bothersome how society (apparently even in…...

One of the Things I Love About God

...One of the things that I love about God’s word the most is that it is so timeless. Perhaps the reason is, that even though the world changes around us constantly, human nature tends to remain much the same. This evening, I would like to show you what I mean, as we look at a story in God’s word. John 9 Can you imagine what it must be like to be blind? This man was born that way. How do you begin to describe to a blind man, the simple things we take for granted? How do you begin to describe the colors of autumn leaves? How do you describe the yellow buttercups or the white dogwood blossoms or redbuds in the spring? How do you begin to paint a baby blue sky with white fluffy clouds in the mind of someone who has never seen the light of day? How do you describe to him what his parents look like or what he looks like? I wonder, how many times did this young man sit and wonder, “oh, if only I could see?” If only I could be like everyone else. If only I did not have to rely on others to bring me down town where I have to sit and beg. If only I could see so that I could get a job. If only….. Imagine? I’m sorry, but I cannot. In this story that we have just read, is a man, just like that. He is blind and has always been. Along comes this man, the Son of God, who gives to him the one thing that he has never had, his eyesight. Immediately, some of the folks around town notice. Isn’t this the beggar who was blind? Some said, “yes, this is him”. ......

Crazy Love

...132.022 February 7, 2013 “Crazy Love” In Steven Pinker short essay “Crazy Love,” he describes the effects love has on us as humans and the way people look for certain spouses. Pinker argues that love has driven people to evoke feelings like happiness, anger, sorrow, violence and obsessiveness for those the love, he also states that “the thought of love can impel us slay dragons and write corny songs.” This essay tends to inform the reader on the effect love have on people, on how romantic infatuation is different from both raw lust and the enduring commitment that keeps lovers together long after their besotedness have faded. Pinker also explains how humans find a mate through shopping for the most desirable person who will accept them for example the 10s marry the 10s, and while the 9s marry the 9s and so on. He also states that people shop for the perfect match as if they were at the marketplace where you want the best price you can get. The author also uses a quote from Kwakiutl Indian in 1896 to emphasize how love has caused people to act out of the ordinary for years. He also explores different way to find a mate “looking for someone who is emotionally committed to you because of who you are,” or “accept a partner who wanted you for a rational reason to begin with.” This essay interest and compel the reader to think about how he or she views love. It relates to our everyday life and how truly important you are to someone you love. Because people tend to go......

Crazy Love by Francis Chan

...Preface To just read the Bible, attend church, and avoid "big" sinsis this passionate, wholehearted love for God? -Francois Fenelon, The Seeking Heart We all know something's wrong. At first I thought it was just me. Then I stood before twenty thousand Christian college students and asked, "How many of you have read the New Testament and wondered if we in the church are missing it?" When almost every hand went up, I felt comforted. At least I'm not crazy. In this book I am going to ask some hard questions. They will resonate with what a lot of us feel but are generally afraid to articulate and explore. Don't worry-this isn't another book written to bash churches. I think it's far too easy to blame the American church without acknowledging that we are each part of the church and therefore responsible. But I think we all feel deeply, even if we haven't voiced it, that the church in many ways is not doing well. I get nervous when I think of how we've missed who we are supposed to be, and sad when I think about how we're missing out on all that God wants for the people He loved enough to die for. I haven't always felt this way. I grew up believing in God without having a clue what He is like. I called myself a Christian, was pretty involved in church, and tried to stay away from all of the things that "good Christians" avoid-drinking, drugs, sex, swearing. Christianity was simple: fight your desires in order to please God. Whenever I failed (which was often), I'd walk......

Vague Perception of the so-Called "Love"

...Vague Perception of the so-called “LOVE” Written by: naryssea Some were afraid to fall in it; some were waiting for it until the right time comes; and, others were very pleased if their companion is true in it. I was given the responsibility to make them have this kind of feeling yet I did not know what it is—Love. As I wandered the humid street of an alley, I was also marveling each desire of the individuals I am encountering with. They do not see me yet I see them. I wondered how these individuals weren’t given the kind of duty like mine. We have the same features and physical distinctiveness yet I find it hard to think why it is not. Is it because of the fact that I was floating and they were not? My arrows didn’t lessen any of its numbers so I decided to dart some of it onto each pairs I wanted; a male and a female. It did not do any ache for it aimed their deepest desires towards the feeling they wanted most—love. I resided on one of the inn’s rooftops, sit on its chimney and watched each of them meet their mate without any reason inside their minds while they had felt the same way. Is this what they call love? Blackness kissed the moon when I made up my mind to move out from my position. I went to a certain residence and glanced into one of its window. There is HE. It had been my routine to come into his apartment once I nearly finished my task. The reason is that… I do not know why. He was writing a certain journal of what he wanted......

Little Things

...F. Belinario ACT 211 COMARTS3 Little Things What we learned becomes a part of who we are. I can say that one of the most memorable and remarkable chapter of my life was my childhood. Why? Because when we were little, this is just the time where you can do anything you want, have anything you want, a time where you don’t mind anything around you unless it will give happiness to you, you don’t mind problems or anything that you think will bother you, and of course dreaming and wishing where the sky is only your limit. As a child, we are all curious in all the things that surround us; we always question everything new in our sight, we always want to experience and explore new things every day. Back then, Candies and Chocolates are my childhood and opening the wrap of lollipop is the hardest thing to do for me, going back to that stuffs, I always feel so happy every time may Nanay gave me those whenever she come home from the market. Another memorable event in my childhood is that talking and sharing some epic stories with some of my friends and playmates. Looking back, playing is a serious learning for me, it is really my work, no doubt, and it is also yours. Since earlier I stated about our curiosities, let me share to you some products of it when I was a kid: First, I tried to balance the on and off switch of our light, the second one is that In the mall, I always try not to step on the outline of the tiles, next is Me and my little brother always play......

The Little Things

...the good things that can happen to you throughout the day, you don’t really notice how many small things there are that can have a positive effect. Small things on their own aren’t much, but when you start to add them up they can become something huge. For instance, playing fetch with my Labrador Buddy, or giving in to that craving of chocolate and enjoying every bite are very small things in the grand scheme of things, but take either out of my life and it would be a tragedy. Every once in a while something happens that is clearly a big good thing, but they don’t happen often enough to really get you through that daily grind. For instance, my mom recently celebrated her 70th birthday after a year when she had a pretty serious health scare, and celebrating that milestone with her and my family was huge. Being able to see her turn a year older was a great feeling, and feeling like I might lose her was really scary. The day she had her surgery was another big one. Seeing her wake up and smile after everything went well was one of the good moments of the past year that stands out to me the most. These are the moments that make you feel stronger as a person and make you realize how close you are to your family. The little things don’t hit you so powerfully though. Over the course of my 21 day experiment I noticed that things like the smell of a good candle, eating a home cooked meal, and just enjoying a great workout always make me happy, but were the sort of things that I......

Love Is Blind, Among Other Things

...Love is Blind, Among Other Things “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” is a comedy by William Shakespeare set in and around the city of Athens during a time when the belief in the existence of magic and magical beings was not outrageous. The characters used form a wide variety of social classes from royalty to the lowly working class which helps to show that the affects of love are not confined to any specific group of people, but that everyone is equally afflicted. Helena is one of the four young lovers depicted in this play and has a unique perspective on love by being the only female who does not have a suitor. Shakespeare uses Helena’s first soliloquy at the end of act one, scene one, along with the play itself to help solve some of love’s more mysterious questions such as: why people love others who do not love them; why people fall in love with certain people; and why people fall in and out of love. Why is it that some people love others who do not love them back? When Helena is following Demetrius through the forest while he is trying to find Hermia and Lysander, Demetrius constantly berates Helena, telling her that he does not love her “I love thee not, therefore pursue me not.” (2.1.188) and that it sickens him to look upon her “For I am sick when I do look on thee.” (2.1.212). Helena, feeling Demetrius’ scorn, continues to follow him and profess her love for him “The more you beat me, I will fawn on you.” (2.1.204). The logic for why she follows him cannot exist in the......

A Little Concept Called Creation

...A Little Concept Called Creation Science and religion, religion and science – any way you put them (at least in my eyes) you got two studies of the beginning of life that would never intersect. After reading a portion of Paul Davies’ G-d and the new physics I have learned otherwise. In the section’s I read, I found that while the book tended to get a bit intellectual and less college friendly, certain topics produced a yield that was really unlike anything I’ve read before. It should be put out there prior to diving into discussion topics that obviously two schools of thought will be presented, the sciences and the religious. The following are two almost definitions given by Davies: “Science is based on careful observation and experiments enabling theories to be constructed which connect different experiences. Central to this approach is the willingness of the scientist to abandon a theory if evidence is produced against it…Religion is founded on revelation and received wisdom. Religious dogma that claims to contain an unalterable Truth can hardly be modified to changing ideas. The true believer must stand by his faith whatever the apparent evidence against it is. (6) It is by these two definitions that most of this paper will be centered around, and very important that everyone who reads this knows how I have defined these topics and those who subscribe to them. “…Any system of thought that claims to provide an understanding of the physical world must make some......

"A Little Learning Is a Dangerous Thing" - Alexander Pope

..."A little learning is a dangerous thing" - Alexander Pope This statement could mean several things as different people can perceive it In different ways. Alexander pope had initially meant that learning is dangerous when it is incomplete. This quote is similar to another "I know just enough to be dangerous". Again this means in some areas you may need to take precautions to stay out of danger. The way I see It is some people will think they understand a subject fully, when in reality they only know an imperceptible amount. They will then use their minimal knowledge, perhaps developing an ongoing thirst for knowledge for themselves causing a calamitous effect waiting to happen. An example to demonstrate this is Marie Curie's situation. Curie knew that she was in search for Radium and she knew how to isolate it however, she wasn’t aware of the consequences of working with radioactive substances for a long period of time. This eventually led to the disastrous effect of aplastic anemia. There weren't any safety measures during her time. Curie's incomplete knowledge of Radium had caused her to die. There are numerous factors that determine whether or not learning is a dangerous thing. Perhaps a little knowledge may benefit some people. For example abecedarian knowledge of first aid is vital when you are in a situation with somebody who has an injured leg. You may not be trained professional but inherent knowledge could save a life. Another example is basic......

Five Little Things We Can Do for My Country

...Five Little Things We Can Do for My Country 5 Little Things WE Can Do to Help our Country I believe that in order to help our country be a better place to live in, it has to start in helping ourselves to be better individuals first. We have to keep in mind at all times that everything we do, even the smallest ones has something to do with our country, so we might act responsibly as well. Here are the 5 little things we may not be aware of but can be a great help: 1.Obey your parents A good community starts in a good family. The way we are at home reflects to what we are in a bigger environment. Before we become good followers in the laws, we are followers at home first. We become better if we always obey our parents. Our parents only want us to be successful in the future and so, listening to them will help us achieve our goals.Their words are always the best guide for us to be molded into a responsible, caring citizen. 2.Throw your garbage properly. It’s just a matter of discipline. Let’s us help promote the cleanliness of our society, even nobody’s looking. We have to respect our country before anybody else does. 3.Treat everyone like a brother or sister of your own. We have to treat our co-Filipinos the way we treat our own siblings. Let’s avoid getting a crab-mentality and be happy for the achievements of others instead of pulling them down. Let them be our inspiration to help ourselves rise. Let’s always help, forgive and love each......

Love Calls Us to the Things of This World

...“Love Calls Us to the Things of This World” Richard Wilbur Richard Wilbur’s poem, “Love Calls Us to the Things of This World” is about the first moments of the morning when we are between the state of being asleep and being awake. That moment when we aren’t burden with the outside world and still on the outskirts of reality, engulfed in a worry free peaceful zone. As the sleeper is in his peaceful state, the window is open and he hears the “cry of the pulleys” as laundry is being hung and what I envisioned also was him hearing the flapping of the laundry because he says “The morning air is all awash with angles”. That maybe the flapping laundry instead of awakening him even more, reminds him of the flapping wings of an Angel. As the sleeper is in the world of the Angels and harmony, consciousness eventually wins and the sleeper is now aware that it is just laundry flapping in the wind and nothing more. The soul is now descended back into it body and daily life. One then wonders why we would want to wake up from this blissful state of being and the answer to that I believe is love. Just like the title says “Love Calls Us to the Things of This World”. We do things for love and that is why the sleeper leaves the peaceful wondrous state and awakens to a new day. “Love Calls Us to the Things of this World” shows us how different the spiritual world and the real world can be. The man then goes to describe the thieves in the gallows should have clean linens for their......

Crazy

...Crazy By, Carly Growing up, me and my sister, Casey, we best friends with the girl who lived across the street from us, Bridgette Samuels. Bridgette spent more time at our house than her own. My mother used to always joke that Bridgette was her third daughter. She very could have been. She would go out to dinner with us every Friday night, join us on our family vacations, was pictured on every Christmas card, and had her own place at our kitchen table. When my mom went grocery shopping, she not only bought Casey’s and my favorite snacks, but Bridgette’s as well. She was like a sister to us. Bridgette was the first of us to take an interest in boys. You might say she was a little crazy when it came to them. Bridgette would chase around the boys in our neighborhood in her miniskirts and platform flip-flops, while Casey and I would stand by, completely disinterested. We still held the mentality that boys were stupid, and we ignored them while boy-crazed Bridgette tried to convince them to kiss her. But by the following summer, the summer between third and fourth grade, things had changed. My mother took up a job at the local hospital, and the three of us were enrolled in day camp. It was there we met our summer heartthrob and the focus of our desire – Danny Barkler. The three of us obsessed over Danny, daring each other to talk to him and drawing his name in hearts with chalk. We pined over ways to get Danny’s attention, despite none of our efforts ever succeeding.......
