...Writing a Resume Your resume isn’t your autobiography. It’s a short document, meant to show an employer that you’re a desirable candidate for an available job. Writing an effective resume presents you as a well-qualified, interesting individual who is worthy of a face-to-face interview. Employers may receive over 100 resumes for a single job opening. While ideally each candidate would receive equal time, the fact is that employers typically sort through a pile and put the most appealing specimens at the top of the heap. Statistically, your resume has about ten to twenty seconds to either float to the top (for further analysis) or sink to the bottom (obscurity in the employer’s personnel files). Steps to Writing a Resume Gathering Information Whether you’re writing a resume for one employer or several, the job of writing a resume is much easier when you take the time to put all of your information in front of you. Besides that, putting all of your information in one place gives you a handy reference to make sure that each resume you write has all the information you want to disclose to prospective employers. It also makes updating and writing new resumes easier than starting from scratch. Resumes are divided into three sections: experience, skills, and education. Using these sections, brainstorm a list of all the data that might be pertinent to getting the job you want now and jobs you may consider in the future. If you’re writing a......

...Writing is largely an iterative process that improves with practice. We have done a great deal of writing and revising in this course. We have also read Timothy Flood’s Business Writing in its entirety. Reflect on your writing skills and confidence five weeks ago and consider the progress you have made. Specifically, what new skills have you added to your writer’s repertoire that will help carry you through your graduate program? Discussion I Professor and Class, What an interesting five weeks. I am so happy we’re almost done! Five weeks ago, I struggle with getting started on writing. Today, I feel my writing skills have improved tremendously. I no longer struggle with getting started and I feel I am a much stronger writer compared to five weeks ago. I think the best advice I’d obtained from Flood and Thomas was being able to communicate to a diverse audience. Both Flood and Thomas brought awareness to writing clear and concise and using proper grammar, punctuations and to reframe from using slang, big words or using words that could have multiple meanings, which can be confusing to international readers. I also learned the importance of being able to convey my written intent to my audience the first time. This will ensure that my reader understand my intent and is able to respond to my request or instructions accordingly. Lastly, I discovered when writers incorporate business-writing techniques as part of their normal writing process (writing business......

...Business Writing Business writing is similar to technical writing; the concerns and strategies are the same. You start by collecting information—whether you're writing a letter, an email, a press release, or preparing a presentation, you start by gathering your thoughts and doing research. The research might involve reading relevant research papers, clinical trials, and review articles. You may want to talk with researchers, colleagues, or peruse your notes you made at relevant meetings.... It's a good idea to begin by asking yourself "What am I trying to achieve?" If you can't answer that question. the chances of writing a good piece are slim. If you can identify your global intentions, then you can evaluate your information, arguments, and recommendations against those intentions. Start immediately to identify the main issues, think about how to organize them, make some notes, brainstorm, and so on. By focusing your thoughts, you've started to think about what your readers might want or need to know. ------------------------------------------------- Some Things To Keep In Mind This is the same list of strategies used for technical writing: 1. Understand the type of report/memo/synopsis you are writing—find examples and notice the structure and organization other authors have used   2. Write down your global intentions—a phrase or two that captures the gist of your potential writing   3. Tentatively identify possible sections and subsections—this is a......

...Nicholas Vandiver AC1205467 EN130 English Composition II Assignment 4 Process Analysis Essay 11/22/2013 Writing a Resume Having a job has been a huge necessity in today’s economy. If you don’t have a job you can’t live, eat, or do anything you want with your life. There are several things you need to have before you can obtain a job in today’s economy. You have to have some type of schooling, job experience, know how, and a great resume. Without a resume you can’t get the job you want and should have. You might be asking yourself “How do I write a resume and why is it important to have one.” Well you need a resume to get that job of your dreams and I will show you how to get that job with an exceptional resume. The type of resume I am going to teach you is called a functional resume. When you start your resume always start by changing the font to Times New Roman and the size should be 12. The first item you should time on your resume is your name, then your address, after that your phone number, and lastly an email address. The biggest no-no you must remember is to never write the word resume on the top of the page. You don’t need the word there because the interviewer already knows it’s your resume. Trust me I did this and the guy said have a nice day. Having just your name, address, number, and email establishes who you are and how you present yourself. The next step is to write down your education history. You want to list your education in......

...Business Writing Portfolio Davina Ross XCOM/285 Essentials of Managerial Communication Axia College Reflection Effective communication is the key to the success of any business. It helps to know the different type of communications and how to employ them properly. The ease of writing or responding to e-mails has its own format of what is correct and acceptable in the business world. I had never given it much thought, prior to this class. Making sure everyone receives a good understanding of what message is actually conveyed, whether in a personal or professional setting all depends on how that message is given. The job I do daily requires good writing skills as well as good speaking skills which entail me to be knowledgeable about what I am writing and speaking about. Using critical thinking skills that I have learned, comes into play when corresponding with coworkers or members of upper management. This course has taught me how to write and speak keeping the audience in mind realizing that the audience can have a large impact on the outcome of all writings or public speaking. Using PowerPoint presentations will be helpful as I have an understanding how to do them properly, fully using the speakers notes section with pinpointed information giving the most important parts to the audience from start to finish. I must admit, I would always just sit down and write all my thoughts out and use what I had written down to put in a manner that would be readable to others....

Target Audiences Store Managers Store Employees Consumers and Public Communication types that will be used Store Managers – Business memo Store Employees – E-mail Consumers and Public – Business letter Part II: Letter: 614 Crestwell Ave. Tampa, FL 33602 January, 2010 Dear Store Managers: Rising gas prices and increased operating expenses require our company to amend our current store policy regarding employee work hours. In order to eliminate this new problem of increased costs, it will be necessary for our company to amend our existing store hours. To begin with, stores will now be closed on Sundays. In addition, Monday through Saturday, each work day will be shortened by two hours, and stores will be opening one hour later and closing one hour earlier. Instead of the usual work week consisting of 8-hour days five days a week, managers will now be required to work 10-hour days four days of the week. This change of schedule will not only benefit our organization but it will also benefit you personally because it will allow you to save additional money on gas, will give your more free time to enjoy with your family, and it will allow you to feel less stress. In addition to these changes, part-time employees will need to consolidate all of their hours into 1, 2, or 3 day workweeks, depending on the number of hours that they are normally scheduled to work. Also, our company......
