Ignorance is defined as the lack of knowledge or information. Like the “prisoners” in the cave, people can be completely oblivious to the outside, and the world that surrounds them. Plato’s “myth of the cave” can be analyzed that the group of people being imprisoned were tricked into believing that the shadows they saw were that of “reality”. Of course for some the thought of escape crossed their minds, but for others that is what they believed life was. Ignorance is easily compared to being imprisoned in a cave. Although we see what happens all around us, do we really understand what we are seeing? For few the answer is yes, but for most this is life and we are just meant to go through it. The same is to be said for those in the cave. Some wanted to escape and see what “reality” truly was, but most believed that was all it had to offer. For those who understand it’s a lesson learned every day. We know are meaning on this Earth and we understand our destination. We realize life is a game instead of a joy ride. And we realize those who play the “game” best, come out on top. As for those who simply just sit back and enjoy the “ride”, they get what they get and will never know if they were meant to achieve more or not. Although these people may not be stupid, they are considered ignorant because they don’t necessarily lack knowledge, but they lack the fact that there is always more to things than what you may see or…...

A lot of the time the body’s self-defense mechanism, the immune system, mistakenly attacks the adrenal glands. When these attacks happen it destroys the outer layer of the glands. Long-lasting infections such as HIV or tuberculosis can also harm the glands. Addison’s disease can also be brought on by body spreading cancer cells. All treatment associated for Addison’s Disease is in the form of hormone replacement therapy. One drug you could use would be oral corticosteroids. A doctor would prescribe these pills to you to help replace aldosterone. Other medicines such as hydrocortisone, prednisone, or cortisone acetate may be used to replace cortisol. ...Throughout centuries many people always provoke someone from doing situations they will regret and others have their way of planning a scheme to try to hurt another. In the reading Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare; According to Calpurnia she is persuading Caesar not to go to the capitol because she believes there are many threating omens and is trying to make him understand that he might get hurt. However, Decius Brutus is trying to be sly and insisting him to go or not he will let the others down. This shows that both Brutus and Calpurnia are trying to persuade him in a both positive and negative way; but it’s all up to Caesar to know if it’s great idea. Calpurnia is very frightened that a war might go on and Caesar might get hurt; therefore she’s insecure of letting him go to the Capitol because she has overheard other men talking about how it can get. For example, Calpurnia says, “The noise of battle hurtled in the air, Horses did neigh, and dying men did groan,” This is describing how those wars are like and what it can lead too. Her plan is too try to get Caesar not to go. On the contrary, Decius is doing the opposite he wants Caesar to attend the Capitol and tells him if he doesn’t go the people will be disappointed. This is important because, he is in two situations and both of them have their pros and cons. Furthermore he states that at the end if God’s choose he will die. Another essential point is that Calpurnia not just overheard from the men but also she......

Scared Straight

...Scared Straight Todays youth at a glance is becoming more troubling by the day as social media trends such as the “Knockout Game”, schoolyard fights, along with sprees of theft and even in some cases acts of murder. We are living in a time where the parental relationships with children are at a state of degeneration, as many kids within different demo-graphs are high risk to be involved with these activities and in most cases dire outcomes. Numerous cases of theft, violence, and general delinquency are becoming top tier phenomenon’s, as general delinquency mode of operation for this adolescent generation. As we make an analysis of this ordeal as a whole, one would find that there are many factors that can be said to be the common denominator in its contribution to so many misguided children and young adults. We are moving out an age where child and parental communication is being hindered as the general family structures of todays home are growing into a state of total degeneracy. Many children and teens often grow up in single parent homes and are exposed to inconsistencies in discipline, physical, verbal and substance substance abuse only to go to a school to interact with a social group that thrives in these themes in a more concentrated manner. Interestingly enough, the effect of these causes tends to end in outcomes that can’t be redeemed lightly from as many kids, undergo long-term sentences in juvenile detention. Other obstacles such as teens and young......

...Introduction to Antarctica: Most people know that Antarctica is the coldest place on Earth, but did you know it is the worlds largest desert? or that a giant lake is locked beneath the ice? or that huge volcanoes can be found here? Antarctica is the fifth largest of the Earth's seven continents. It is the coldest continent located at the southern end of Earth. Antarctica is surrounded by the Southern Ocean. It's remote location and harsh climate of freezing weather and extreme winds makes it impossible for a permanent human population. The continent was circumnavigated by Captain James Cook in the 18th century, but he never saw it. In the early 20th century explorers were obsessed with reaching the South Pole and eventually it was Roald Amundsen who was the first to reach this point in 1911. History of Antarctica: Around 200 million years ago Antarctica was part of the super continent Gondwana. Joined with Australia, Africa, South America, India and New Zealand. Over time Gondwana began to break into pieces and slowly moved to their present positions. The word Antarctic comes from the Greek word 'Antarktos' meaning south of the bear or opposite north. Antarctica is the fifth largest of the Earth's seven continents. It has an area of nearly 14 million square kilometres. Antarctica was the last continent to be discovered. It was first sighted early in the 19th century, Scientific expeditions and seal hunters explored pieces of the Antarctic coast but had not......

I Was Scared Stiff

...I was scared stiff Two nights ago, I felt restless as I lay in my bed. My husband was already asleep, beside me. The time on my mobile phone said 2:34AM. I decided to listen to some music on my iPod with the hope that I would eventually drift off to sleep. I popped my earphones in my ears and wriggled away to a hip hop tune on the bed. Amidst my wriggling my elbow bumped into what felt like someone standing right next to the bed beside me. I looked up and caught a glimpse of a shadow of a person towering over me. I jolted upright on the bed, awakening my husband at the same time. Perhaps he felt something was up and asked me "What's wrong? What's wrong?" I was unable to reply immediately because my eyes kept scanning the bedroom, seeking out for a shadow or movement. Again my husband asked, "What's wrong love?" "There's someone in our bedroom!" I said out loud. My husband turned on his bedside lamp. Naturally, no one was there. Our bedroom door was closed, and we didn't hear anyone opening the door to go out but I still felt there was a presence in the room. My husband pulled me towards him in a hug "Just pray love." We prayed Our Father and my husband turned off his lamp. After a few minutes, my eyes adjusted to the darkness in the room. Then I saw the shadow again, standing, on my husbands' side of the bed. I screamed out and clung onto my husband. He turned the lamp on again and of course, no one was there. The emotions that was running through me at that time, was......

Thinking about why out of the blue, you kicked me out for no reason, after three years and I don’t even get an explanation for your actions. Let me make a few things clear for the both of us. There are things that you picked up from me that you have never done in past relationships, adventures we have taken together, and arguments that turned out into the best moments ever. There are plenty of fish for you and I in this world to be with and I am sure we will find another partner. But it will be just that “a partner,” where as you and I were made to be together. If you really think about it your next partner is going to try to top moments that you and I had as our first time moments. ...Elier Suarez Fin4514 M,W 9-10:15 Chapter 5 homework Problem 1: A. An indexed investment represents a high diversified type of securities without the risk of systematic market exposure. This form of risk cannot be diversified within the company because it represents that one company’s fragility within the market itself. B. a. An active approach toward rebalancing the policy brings competent flexibility to multiple time periods and a more favorable strategic asset allocation. b. Indexing to asset increases the portfolios time frame and returns will not beat the market. The Index will mirror the value but won’t duplicate an independents stocks deficiency. c. Adopting a policy portfolio different from your peers can be viewed as aggressive and will differentiate RFM’s returns. Policy should reflect the companies risk willingness and asset allocation should be represented as cross-sectional. C. The type of investment program being suggested is tactical asset allocation because it involves making short-term adjustments to asset-class weights. This is primarily based on short term predictions among asset classes of performance. D. The asset-only approach ignores the investor’s liabilities while the ALM approach adopts the asset allocation that is best to support the liabilities. A dynamic approach to asset allocation benefits between multiple active periods. On the other hand, a major disadvantage to this approach is that is costly......

Why to Be Scared of Growing Old?

...Life is beautiful because while everybody is growing up, they gain knowledge, intelligence, and wisdom. I know that God lets us live with a purpose in life and to get old is a natural process that every single person has to live and for that reason I am not afraid of get old one day. I don’t see myself as being weak or needy when I get to an older age. I see myself in a positive way, healthy, strong, helping others and living life with my family as well as sharing good moments with my husband, kids, and grand kids. The aging process is inevitable, why be worried about it? I think the main reason why many people are afraid is the misconception on aging people have and the stereotypes for older people that exist in our society. It is necessary and very helpful to make a proper plan, retirement, in order to face the future with confidence. Although, if I want to avoid medical or caregiver expenses in my older years,it is necessary to take care of my health by getting good nutrition and exercise regularly. Those are factors that everybody should think about it and put them in practice in order to enjoy the elder years. The plan of retirement, in my point of view is essential and important, it is a right that every person can enjoy but with a proper plan and discipline it is possible to reach that goal with success. My only concern about getting old is to know if I would be able to accomplish the goals that I have. One of my most important goals is to see my kids to achieve......

...Leadership Style P. Lynne Prather LDR/531 Novemeber 30, 2015 Donna Perkett Leadership Style On January 20th, 1981 Ronald Reagan took the oath of office for president of the United States, and at the time our nation was facing serious problems. We were crippled with high unemployment, major energy shortages, interest rates were over 21 percent and we were in the greatest economic crisis since the Great Depression of the 1930s. Our military capability was in a shameful state due to the Vietnam War, our military planes needed parts, our ships were in need of trained crews and the army tanks were in need of fuel and ammunition. Many people questioned whether Americans still had faith in our country and the foundations that created this great nation. This was the country that Ronald Reagan inherited. When Reagan left office eight years later, he had revitalized the economy, our military capabilities had been rebuilt, our position of world leadership had been restored and the spirit of the American people was revived. Reagan Leadership Style Along with several other exceptional presidents Reagan was definitely what would be considered a charismatic leader. A charismatic leader is someone who has attributes of heroic or extraordinary leadership abilities. Reagan had a concept of America’s potential and what needed to be accomplished. While serving as the California governor Reagan had managed to balance the state’s budget. Reagan applied the same theory and study to......

...Downs thought of getting out of the field and just working a job because he had been wounded three times very early in his tenure. He sat on that thought and very quickly came to the conclusion that he was much more confident and achieved than he gave himself credit for. All the trials and tribulations that he was put through forced him to grow exponentially as a leader and quickly. He rose from a lieutenant with no experience to a very confident leader that Delta One- Six could put their trust in to make decisions in the best interest of the group and not just himself. He endured so many deaths that it began to look like a “plug and play” kind of war. There were so many of his men killed, but they always had a replacement that was just as scared and felt just as much regret as the other soldiers. Downs accidentally stepped an inch backwards out of his path and hit a mine that was called a bouncing betty. It detonated and blew off his entire left arm. He went numb and collapsed from shock. He couldn’t feel his legs because they were ripped to the bone. The only reason it didn’t blow his back out is because he had his pack on which exploded everywhere with the shrapnel absorbed. How many people have to hold their own arm that was just attached to their shoulder across their chest while being carried by a medic? Overall, my impression of this book was very good. I enjoyed it thoroughly. It was very descriptive and through some parts of his journey you felt as if you were......

...MEANINGS OF BOT, BOOT, BOO, BLT BOT (BUILD, OPERATE TRANSFER) BOT finds extensive application in the infrastructure projects and in public private partnership. In the BOT framework a third party, for example the public administration, delegates to a private sector entity to design and build infrastructure and to operate and maintain these facilities for a certain period. During this period the private party has the responsibly to raise the finance for the project and is entitled to retain all revenues generated by the project and is the owner of the regarded facility. The facility will be then transferred to the public administration at the end of the concession agreement, without any remuneration of the private entity involved. Some or even all of the following different parties could be involved in any BOT project: • The host government: Normally, the government is the initiator of the infrastructure project and decides if the BOT model is appropriate to meet its needs. In addition, the political and economic circumstances are main factors for this decision. The government provides normally support for the project in some form. (provision of the land/ changed laws) • The concessionaire: The project sponsors who act as concessionaire create a special purpose entity which is capitalised through their financial contributions. • Lending banks: Most BOT project are funded to a big extent by commercial debt.
