Prospects of Market Volumes and Shares Economics Essay

...Prospects Of Market Volumes And Shares Economics Essay Nanotechnology qualifies for having a major impact on the world economy, because nanotechnological applications will be used in virtually all sectors. Scientists, researchers, managers, investors and policy makers worldwide acknowledge this huge potential and have started the nano-race. Prospects of Market Volumes and Shares The NSF [1] estimated a world market for nanotechnological products of $1 trillion for 2015. Depending on the definition of nanotechnology and its contribution to added value of the final products as well as the degree of optimism, many other forecasts vary between moderate $150 bn in 2010 [2] and $2.6 trillion in 2014 [3] . The latter, most optimistic scenario would imply that the market for nanotechnology-based products would be larger than the prospected information and communication technology market and would exceed the future biotech market by ten times. The forecasts differ significantly from each other, but have common thread in that they predict a substantial increase of the market for nanotechnological products with a take off some when in the early 2010s. The figures presented above show the possible direction, but are not adequate for deeper analyses of the development of the nanotechnology market. Lux Research and the NSF have both spent some efforts in breaking the figures down in nanotechnology subfields, the first in an analysis of 5 years in the past (1999-2003), the NSF shows the......

New Products in Existing Markets

...ever-changing market opens up a plethora of opportunities for competitors. Customers needs and wants constantly alter, bringing about a change in demand and supply. Stein says that industry competitors must be cognizant of new customers entering their market, while employing organizational strategies that exploit those entrants. An increasingly expanding market generates challengers seeking to make a competitive move through positioning or placement of new products. Introducing new products in the same segment with existing products is a good idea, but firms must proceed with caution. Many firms can add products to its existing product lines in order to create variations in different market segments. Stein says that at the SBU level, firms can add complementary and supplementary products to its main products to “round out its product lines.” Complementary products are ones that can be used concurrently with other products, while performance and quality are upgraded in primary products through the manufacturing of supplementary products. Adding new products to an existing product line will access a larger range of market segments. The idea is to position the product aggressively against the “less well-positioned” competitors in order to promote rapid growth. This rapid growth will increase a firm’s market share and will benefit its long-term goals. Following its entrance into the segment, firms should employ a penetration strategy to further saturate itself into the......

Product Analysis

...Product Market Analysis Introduction to Communication May 26, 2013 Product Market Analysis Deciding which product to purchase once the decision to make the purchase can often be a difficult task. Today’s media outlets offer a high level of advertising and product marketing. Information released from product advertisement is often true and sometimes false, sadly there is definitely a high amount of false advertisement. Knowing which advertisements are what they are claiming to be can be almost impossible. Completing research on the desired product and choosing the company that makes the highest quality product while offering a competitive price is the best way to proceed. The marketing for recumbent bicycles does not use every media outlet that is available for advertising. Most of the advertising for recumbent bicycles is through the Internet and magazines. Another method of advertising used is through the use of celebrities, such as Lance Armstrong. Advertisement through product placement is also used in movies and television. Word of mouth advertising has also been a source for sales in relation to these bicycles. These types of......

Market Research and Product Development

...Market Research and Product Development By Kevin Ofor Abugu PhD Student – Cardiff Metropolitan University Introduction Organisations invest in new product development to ensure their future success in the market. Nevertheless most of the new products introduce into the market are more likely to fail than succeed (Viaene, 1999). Hoban (2002) posits that only one-third of the new products launched survive. Young (Ibid) states that the rate of new product failure is as high as 90 to 95 percent. The failures of the new products in mobile industry, automobile industry, beverage industry, etc. are few examples. Hence a thorough market research should be employed to precede new product development (Cooper & Klienschmidts, 2000). This elucidates the importance of market research in new product development (NPD). Companies must continuously acquire market information to be able to adapt a new product into the market (Cooper & Klienschmidts, Ibid). Such effort is expected to bring the customers’ need, wants and perception into the new product development process. For example, Cisco introduced a system through which her B2B customers share their ideas, design and order products online. Similarly, IBM introduced a forum through which her customers exchange information concerning the development of a new product. The information gathered through the various means is transmitted to the R&D through the communication with marketing. Marketing research acquires customer......

Market Segmentation and Product Positioning

...Market Segmentation and Product Positioning Assignment One January 18, 2011 Abstract The key to successful product implementation in today’s national enterprise system is the effective marketing of a new product with the company’s line of existing products. As stated by Iacobucci (2010) (p.3), marketing is defined as an exchange between a company and its customers. In simple terms, the customer wants something from the company or firm and vice versa. In previous times, a company would manufacture a product they thought the customer would want and/or need. The customer purchased that product because of a pending need which basically meant that marketing used to be product oriented. However, marketing today is more that an advertisement for goods and services in an attempt to attract new business. We live in a customer orientated and empowered marketing environment (p.5). We realize the importance and ramifications of having an exchange with our customers and developing a relationship with them. It is this exchange of information between our company and our existing as well as future customers that secures our position in our target market. Our company is a regional tool distributor located in the north eastern section of the United States. Our customer base consists of several major retailers, nationally known in the retail and wholesale tool industry. We use the brand label Steel City Tools for marketing and distribution of our products. This......

Prospects and Challenge of Nepalese Debt Market

... * Prospects and Challenges of Nepalese Debt market 1. Introduction Debt market may be short-term, intermediate and long-term. Short-term and intermediate-term financing sources include trade credit, bank loan, finance company loan, commercial paper; inventory financing includes the issuance of mortgages and bonds (Shim J.K; 1989:138). The importance of the debt market in an emerging economy cannot be overemphasized. In the presence of uncertainty and prudential norms, banks often decline to lend for long term projects, and borrowing from overseas markets may be constrained by country risk perceptions and restrictions on capital mobility. In such cases, the market for debt securities may emerge as the mainstay of the credit and capital markets. (Sumon Kumar Bhaumik&SuchismitaBose, 2001) Bond market link having long-term financing needs with investors willing to place funds in long-term interest bearing securities (UN, TW; 2001). When a corporation (or government) wishes toborrow money from the public on a long term basis, itusually does so by issuing or selling debt securities. Theyare generally called bonds (Ross, 1998).A corporate bond is security representing a long-term promise to pay a certain sum of money at certain time over the course of the loan with fixed rate of interest payable to holder of the bond. And the debenture is the bond backed or secured only by the general credit of corporation. (Hampton, 1998) 2. Empirical Studies Though the debt market,......

Market Segmentation and Product Positioning

...Market Segmentation and Product Positioning Market segmentation is the identification of portions of the market that are different from one another. Segmentation allows the firm to better satisfy the needs of its potential customer. Market segmentation also involves dividing a particular market into groups of individual markets with similar wants and needs. Market segmentation can allow a company to identify groups of similar consumers or potential consumers. It can allow a company to pin point different types of consumer behavior in regards to particular products of that company. Due to market segmentation, the company will be able to respond with appropriate marketing strategies that satisfy the different preferences of each chosen segment. Market segmentation can be used in different markets, such as industrial markets and consumer markets. According to NetMBA.com, industrial markets commonly use market segmentation to segment their different markets according to “1.) Location 2.) Company type and 3.) Behavioral characteristics” (www.netmba.com). In relation as to why industrial markets would use location as a segment would be due to shipping factors for the vendor. It is important for vendors for companies to be geographically positioned near the customers due to “shipping costs may be a purchase factor for vendor selection for products having a high bulk to value ratio” (www.netmba.com). Industrial markets would use company...
